A rant is a rant is a rant, I say.

Screaming out loud in frustration is often considered rude in US cultures, but it's also a way to get rid of such frustrations.

I've chafed under some of the things that aggravated her, many of us have.

But the reality is, nothing's going to change about it. You're going to get elitist players, you're going to get linkshell applications. You're going to get favoritism. Lead a shell for year and you'll see yourself become just as guilty as all the flaws in there, or at the very least get a differing perspective.

I've tried an open LS with just social interaction. People wanted to do things together and without organization, it constantly fell apart. Fights brewed and some people just plain trolled. Application process is just a door-opener. It's amazing how a few, usually inane questions can help you get a fair idea on how the person is going to interact with your members.

But finding or making a linkshell is part of the game. It's social skills. I wouldn't promote people having to force people they don't like into their linkshells any more than forcing players who don't want to conform to social stigmas into a party to level.

Content finder will be here soon for those who want to throw caution to the wind and always have a random experience. I'll probably give it a shot myself. But people will be people, which means they're going to be selfish, and they're going to not get along.

It also means people are going to rant/vent on the forums, and then belittle that rant.

I'd like to ask the community this: What have your linkshell/guild nightmare experiences been? What sort of links-hell practices 'grind your gears'? This is pretty much a rant thread, so we might as well not take it so seriously and let out our own vents.

Quality endgame linkshells have an application process to help protect themselves from getting bad players with zero experience. It helps them avoid a situation where they have to ruthlessly smash someone's pearl because they suck.
If you can't take a few minutes to present yourself to a linkshell you want to join in the form of an application than why should they want to accept you?

So anyway, you're basically just whining because good players form up into cliques with other good players and don't want to play with you?

We'z r elitists, we'z here 2 ruins all ur funs

#1 how do you know someone isnt lying on said applications
#2 why dont you actally take the time to train someone instead if they actually are inexperienced.

i should not have to behave like a link shell needs my devout dedication and a huge list of references and qualifications in order to play the game it was meant to be played... you know, with oher people?

#1: It will show in their skill, and they will be removed if they lied.
#2: It takes a long time to train someone, and most are more than willing to do so, but endgame shells have a standard and it is in no way wrong for them to want to keep their abilities at a certain tier.

You are acting like every linkshell should bow down and be honored to invite you into their shell. Stop it. Life is not some all-inclusive fairytale where everyone holds hands and paint rainbows.

oh, so writing an opinionative article makes one a pretentious lout who believes that they should be invited with honors to every shell.

or.. the point flew right over your head, and you felt the need to spew inane patronization at me.

no, the point is, link shells should not be exclusive clubs and or part time jobs. all the hoop jumping and clique-ish behavior is detrimental to new and returning players alike to experiencing content. get over yourself.

That bolded part? That's exactly what linkshells are.

I agree they (and the game) shouldn't be part-time jobs. But saying you don't want LSes to beg you to join, and saying they shouldn't be exclusive clubs, what are you thinking that you're trying to say here? LSes will only let people join that they want to join. That's the whole point. You don't like how a certain LS runs things? Don't join them. Don't like how any LS runs things? Make your own. Or, whatever. The point is to find or make a group that suits your pace. If your ideas are reasonable, they may pan out. I made my own LS in FF11, because I was sick of groups that played favorites (which, contrary to what you said in the OP, not everyone does - just a heads up). It ended up being successful. Who knew?

Believe it or not, a lot of folks don't want to play with a bunch of randoms who are completely ridiculous. I play with a lot of idiots I get paired up with from shout groups for various events. Should I feel compelled to get them into my LS so they can enjoy all the sweet content? Um, no. I join shout groups when I'm prepared for a terribad experience. I don't need a bunch of idiots ruining my fun time in LS chat whenever I log on. Yeah, that's right. LSes aren't here to serve you, bro. They are groups, with their own agendas. You don't like it? Too bad, I guess. Just because someone has an LS doesn't make it their job to invite everyone on the server, teach them how to play, suffer through their idiocy, etc. You seriously think they should? One can only hope you're trolling us, because the alternative is very depressing indeed.

Or... you could get over yourself and not expect everyone to bow to your wishes.

Welcome to MMO social skills 101.

Because being kind and socialable will actually net you friends in this game, where being angry about every party/LS that rejects your involvement won't do anything at all.

So then I have to ask, why are you playing a FINAL FANTASY mmorpg?

Edit: Why are you playing ANY mmorpg?

    1. That wouldn't take too long to figure out
    2. Why should they if they don't want too? I know it's the theoretical utopian thing to do, but we don't live in a fantasy world and people are entitled to play however they want. You'll have to deal with it.

It's okay, it's my country. I've grown to be immune to my countrymen's worst traits, this thick hide has been pretty useful over here too.
