It's already confirmed that we're getting a whole slew of open world content. Not sure how that makes it nothing but an instanced raidfest. With every passing day, 2.0 feels like it will become nothing but endgame instanced, tiered raids over and over and over, just like every other modern MMO out there. Please, please don't go down this route Square, I'm sick of the current trends in the genre, do something different please
Also, I don't see how exactly anyone misinterprets what Yoshida said as it being retardedly easy to hit 50. It's more or less going to be what it is like now. I know a lot of people in my linkshell are taking the grind slow and steady, partially because they're new, but also because it's their first job, and they have a bunch of content to blow through (Shposhae, Grand Company quests, obtaining your chocobo, starting your job quest, etc.)
While I think that levelling is far too easy right now, for experienced players, it's just fine for new players. Especially since you need a craft/gathering class just to be able to sustain your gear and whatnot.
Didn't the latest player poll mention that people liked the current levelling speed (power-levelling aside)?
Don't we ALWAYS see a billion infinity+ threads complaining that levelling is too fast/idiots who think that you actually can get to level 50 in a week or some other imaginary time without PLing?
Wasn't the interview aimed at people who DON'T play the game?
I am very sure things will stay as they are
I'm really hoping that the translated quote about reaching 50 will be quicker in 2.0 was taken out of context, but that may only be wishful thinking.
In every game - MMO or not - I always enjoyed the journey more than reaching the end itself. In MMOs I get a more rewarding feeling because my long journey has now awarded me to partake in content that's designed to test what I've learned - not to mention the fun that playing at max level brings in and of itself. However the journey for me is arguably the best part in playing any level-progression-based game; regardless of how long it takes. I'll admit though, if the journey isn't fun, then I won't enjoy it (and probably won't play the game).
I loved the journey in XI; and yeah there were some damn ugly headaches just to be able to participate in it (i.e., xp parties), but over time that got better (e.g., level sync, new zones/jobs, etc.). When they announced XIV I was hoping for a new journey within a familiar franchise, and hell yes similar to XI but of course w/o the painful headaches that SOME (definitely not ALL or MOST) of the leveling process had. Of course most of us all know how XIV turned out to be in late 2010...
Now when they announced 2.0 my hopes were re- ... energized(??? ... loss of a good word I guess, heh) that the new, long-awaited journey would be right around the corner. However, with recent statements like the one mentioned in the OP, I'm fearful I'll be disappointed [again] once 2.0 comes out.
So yeah, I understand if "the grind" (which, can arguably be described as EVERYTHING in an MMO) isn't fun - why would anyone WANT to do it? I totally get that. But if it's not only fun, but also exciting and adventure-filled/driven and anything else that could describe an epic journey, I don't understand why anyone would NOT want to do it...
Remember when Yoshida said something about wanting it to take 3 months (or so? give or take? or w/e the number was?) to reach max level? I wonder if he meant to lvl50 or to whatever "max level" he had in mind that we simply don't know about yet. Either way, I really hope they don't make leveling short/quick/whatever... because that just feels completely pointless and boring....
As long as they dont speed up the current leveling speed in 2.0, that's my only gripe. What's the leveling speed as of right now without power leveling around a month?
here we go again
No other successful MMO in this day and age has a grind to level your characters, not even FFXI. There is a reason for this.
At a VERY even pace and without playing far too much each sitting, about a level a day once you hit level 20-odd. It should take about 3~4 days to hit there, I think.
Edit: So that would be what, 8 months to max all DoW/DoM? Also DoH/DoL levelling takes a fair bit more than that, i'd sake about 50~60 days of hard work, closer to 90 is what it feels at my slower pace
