Why does everyone have such a Hard-on for Ivalice?

Here's why...

As seen from the images above, Ivalice is arguably one of the more detailed and extensive world that SE have ever created (heck, I think they spawned 5 or 6 games which were directly related to that world). I personally enjoyed FFXII and the Tactics stories because of the races, the story, and definitely the environments.

One must also remember that the truly legendary Akihiko Yoshida did the art direction for a large portion of the Ivalice universe and he's presently the art director for FFXIV (think that has been mentioned already on this thread)... thus, why we have been seeing several similarities between Ivalice and Eorzea (for example, the obvious similarities between the Arcadian Judges and the Garlean Legatus)

Played XI for 5 years straight so it's hard to call them by their race names for me but I'm trying. We got people in our linkshell that never played XI but by now if we call them tarus or galkas people know what race we're talking about.

I played FFXI for as long as you and have no problems calling them their proper names though I still prefer to call Lalafells Tarus. I actually prefer the names in XIV to the ones of XI it just has more of a ring to them. I guess it varies person by person but they only look like the old races from XI for familiarity reasons. But because they look like the other races and are based on them and there is a big chunk of FFXI players it is only natural for majority of those people to refer to them as such.

I too would have really liked XIV to be based in Ivalice and what not but whatever it definitely would have had a more Final Fantasy feel to it with the towns and the lore of Ivalice behind it. Though FFXIV originally was code name Rapture and was not supposed to be a Final Fantasy title. SE originally had stated it was going to be a non FF title.

How many people actually want to be Nu'mou or Bangaa?

Everyone would be Viera or Moogle.

As much as I love playing elf/elvans/elezen characters I would definitely love to play bangaa, just something about them reminds me of the voracious nobility of the Klingons...(big ST fan).

I'd say the art style and atmosphere.. If fits with all of those games, FFXIV is amazingly scenic but misses a lot of the fantasy needed to get it up to that level.
Especially around city's/hamlets/camps, they look at best like a small village/trading post/old woman's hut or overnight camp.. (or outpost/castle in the case of UL) ....

IT feels like the whole continent of Eorzea is the size of N.Ireland.. (opps off topic a little)
