Yoshi want this game a final fantasy theme park. From every game a bit. And the races are the FF XI part. Ok, for the races Tanaka was responsible. But it fits Yoshis Final Fantasy theme park.

And the races aren't the same. They are similar, but not the same. Mithra and Miqo'te are like a lion and a housecat.

I wonder, wouldn't the next big FF MMO have been better suited to take place in a different world? Sure, Eorzea is a different world... but is it -really-?

What if the game took place either IN Ivalice or just a world fashioned after Ivalice? Instead of Galka, how about Seeq? Instead of Mithra, wouldn't Viera be a welcome change? Replace the Taru with the playable Moogle race, or perhaps the wise Nu Muo? And surely the Bangaa would be an impressive alternate to Elvaan . . and you even get to keep your more generic Humans for the play-it-safe crowd.

I know this has probably been discussed before, but as a life-long FF fan my heart literally aches just thinking about this missed opportunity.
I like Eorzea and the FFXIV races. Ivalice might have been a nice setting for an MMO too, or a mild clone thereof, but ... FFXIV still has an identity even if the races are somewhat replicated from FFXI. It's not that hard to appreciate the world and races of FFXIV, really. And it's purely subjective to think Ivalice and its races would be better, and nevertheless, we may have those races eventually anyways.

Ivalice has its own team and its own lore, not to mention the fact that all the previous titles carry over unto the new title as history, destruction, or a political power shift. Ivalice prides itself on remaining consistent an MMO is not consistent, and nothing could be gained history wise from and Ivalice MMO to be uses in another Ivalice setting.

its more like that EA will buy out squareenix after they go bankrupt, before you see and Ivalice MMO.

I read somewhere that they kept the same races intentionally because they anticipated a huge influx of FFXI players. Specifically players who grew attached to their characters over several years. They hoped that it would be welcomed that people could recreate their old characters and it would make for a more comfortable transition.

Well, not to agree with the OP (because I don't) but this argument (which, truth be said, was something Tanaka once did mention) didn't really find itself realized in the game. I tried long and hard to recreate my XI character, they way they supposedly intended me to, to little avail. After coming up with options that were more travesties than recreations, I decided to go with a new race, a new name, and a new beginning.

    Emm... ok i'll play..

Ok it's same races (well almost), not like that happens in other FF titles, wait doesn't FFT series do it too?
Well it's not a FFT mmo 1st off, it's a FF mmo, So would make sense given how other FF's work it'd share its races, with you know the other FF mmo.

Actually missed opportunity i'll give you that, but till we see what happens in 2.0 not much point in complaining again yet.

I thought mostly the same at first..

but on the other hand.. ivalice has been used also very often.. mostly for the final fantasy tactics series. so maybe it should stick to the ff tactics series like miq'otes /mithras belong to the final fantasy online genre.

its mostly the same situation here.

and do not forget, we will get female roegadyn, male miqo'tes ...
and as well NEW races. so look maybe forward to that? no existing ivalice race.. maybe a complete new whole race.

    looking forward to that:

    femalge roeagadyn

    male miqo'te

    and a new race? :

i think thats the most yoshi can do for us.
i am sure if he was the producer since the very beginning of FFXIV maybe we would have seen an other FF universe. who knows.

but at least its fresh and new, that we can play female roegadyns and male miqo'tes and maybe other new races.. im soo excited for the new race (hopefully we will see it at 2.0. release)
