I'd say the art style and atmosphere.. If fits with all of those games, FFXIV is amazingly scenic but misses a lot of the fantasy needed to get it up to that level.
Especially around city's/hamlets/camps, they look at best like a small village/trading post/old woman's hut or overnight camp.. (or outpost/castle in the case of UL) ....
IT feels like the whole continent of Eorzea is the size of N.Ireland.. (opps off topic a little)

FFXIV is a gorgeous looking game but what it misses right now is the unmistakable "fantasy" grandeur of Ivalice... there was a certain richness to those final fantasy titles that Eorzea only possess in a subtle manner. This is why the development team can use 2.0 to really push the envelope and bring us some of the great concept art they have shown us.
Also, we I think for 2.0 we really need a few more NPCs that we can identify with on Eorzea. Right now, other than Hildebrandt, Merlwyb, Legatus Darnus, and a handful of undeveloped heroes we are lacking that excitement revolving around characters. Ivalice had an abundance of well fleshed out characters.
For instance, we have the echo ability... so why not bring us an old epic fight between Travanchet and Urianger? Or a quest revolving around some Ishgard knights (since we cant access the city at least pacify players with a some characters who come from the city).
Or allow our echo abilities to do short instanced quests with Thancred, Y'shtola, Papalymo, Yda or E-Sumi_Yan... all of whom had great entrances at the beginning of the story but then we don't really interact with them during the course of our adventures until that cutscene in "Futures Perfect" (and later, the "United we stand" quests).
I just think these are the kind of things that could've given the development team an opportunity to show us glimpses of a unseen places within Eorzea (other than the 3 main cities, the camps and the hamlets).
(Shrugs)...Ahhh well, 2.0 doth cometh... I still have high hopes for what it will bring.
"After ten years, finally headed to Sharlayan... absolutely stoked"
XIV does not look great as the other ones, and i do not mean as in pretty, for the game is extremely cute, but as locations and memorable places and stuff where you go "OMG i wanna go there even if there is LVL 10000 mobs that aggro your from half a mile"
Now this is only my opinion so don't get the stakes out, but ivalice world, was more war like, in FFXIV even tho we are in a battle againts this imaginary empire, there are no forts, no checkpoints, no camps, bases no nothing.....![]()

Every Final Fantasy Looks that kool when you look at concept art..Here's why...
As seen from the images above, Ivalice is arguably one of the more detailed and extensive world that SE have ever created (heck, I think they spawned 5 or 6 games which were directly related to that world). I personally enjoyed FFXII and the Tactics stories because of the races, the story, and definitely the environments.
One must also remember that the truly legendary Akihiko Yoshida did the art direction for a large portion of the Ivalice universe and he's presently the art director for FFXIV (think that has been mentioned already on this thread)... thus, why we have been seeing several similarities between Ivalice and Eorzea (for example, the obvious similarities between the Arcadian Judges and the Garlean Legatus)
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Ivalice, just saying a New World is better because it unrestricts the game design.

I like the races we have.
Sure it would be nice to have a new one added on 2.0, but i'm cool with my Elezen!
Shortly after release I wondered why it wasn't set in Ivalice.

"And surely the Bangaa would be an impressive alternate to Elvaan"
wat

Nu'Mou would be interesting, Bangaa too.
Actually, I was fully expecting this game to be set in Ivalice originally... from the old teasers it sounded like a FFT MMO, which would have been very cool in my opinion.
