Why wasn't it Ivalice?

I could've sworn back years ago I saw supposedly leaked screenshots of a FFXIV in development that showed a viera and a moogle in woods that looked reminiscent of Ronfaure. Oh what could have been... Placing a FF MMO in an already established world would seem like a good idea and bring more fans into it IMHO.

so uhh... you don't like that they fashioned the races after the races in XI, and are questioning whether or not Eorzea is enough it's own world... yet you want them to copy the races from other FF games (viera, etc), and worlds (Ivalice)?

I don't get it.

I don't get why it would be copying races if you put the game in a world where those races have always been. They've never been in any other game that isn't in Ivalice.

Isn't it their plan to make XIV take on a little of all FF titles? Why choose one when you can have them all?

April Fools joke? Ah balls. I was so hyped for that too back when those came out. Finding out FFXIV was in Eorzea with ye olde races was disappointing.

Ivalice woulda be awesome. While I didn't care for the original FFTA, I did love both XII and FFTA2 and when this game was first announced I was really hoping for it to take place in Ivalice.

I woulda played bangaa, and was very disappointed when none of the PCs in XII were bangaa.

One of the first criticisms I had about FF14 was the fact that they basically copied everything from FFXI and changed names. To this day, people in-game will refer to 'Galkas' , 'Mithra' and 'Tarus' instead of their proper FF14 names.

I wonder, wouldn't the next big FF MMO have been better suited to take place in a different world? Sure, Eorzea is a different world... but is it -really-?

What if the game took place either IN Ivalice or just a world fashioned after Ivalice? Instead of Galka, how about Seeq? Instead of Mithra, wouldn't Viera be a welcome change? Replace the Taru with the playable Moogle race, or perhaps the wise Nu Muo? And surely the Bangaa would be an impressive alternate to Elvaan . . and you even get to keep your more generic Humans for the play-it-safe crowd.

I know this has probably been discussed before, but as a life-long FF fan my heart literally aches just thinking about this missed opportunity.

for me personally, the world of ivalice offered(traumatized) me with mundane faces with decent ff story line. So in the end, compared to other ff games with better graphics, it kinda sucked. So yeah, really glad the upcoming MMO doesnt have a shadow of the trauma.

I dont see whats wrong with pple calling them oldschool names either. And i think its mostly because the old names are easier to type, say, and spell. literally
