Why wasn't it Ivalice?

One of the first criticisms I had about FF14 was the fact that they basically copied everything from FFXI and changed names. To this day, people in-game will refer to 'Galkas' , 'Mithra' and 'Tarus' instead of their proper FF14 names.

I wonder, wouldn't the next big FF MMO have been better suited to take place in a different world? Sure, Eorzea is a different world... but is it -really-?

What if the game took place either IN Ivalice or just a world fashioned after Ivalice? Instead of Galka, how about Seeq? Instead of Mithra, wouldn't Viera be a welcome change? Replace the Taru with the playable Moogle race, or perhaps the wise Nu Muo? And surely the Bangaa would be an impressive alternate to Elvaan . . and you even get to keep your more generic Humans for the play-it-safe crowd.

I know this has probably been discussed before, but as a life-long FF fan my heart literally aches just thinking about this missed opportunity.

Gonna be hard but it is possible using Dragon Quest X's idea where you start as a human race you do character make for that human race then as story progresses something evil happens and you get sent to another world where you take a soul of another beastmen race and your journey starts again there to find a way to return to human. You get to go through 2nd character make at this point.

FFXIV style - You got Eorzea and something happens like the Meteor project that changes balance and now you got gate opened to Ivalice upon entering your soul takes over a race living in Ivalice, could go same for Vana'diel using this same method

Played XI for 5 years straight so it's hard to call them by their race names for me but I'm trying. We got people in our linkshell that never played XI but by now if we call them tarus or galkas people know what race we're talking about.

I played FFXI for as long as you and have no problems calling them their proper names though I still prefer to call Lalafells Tarus. I actually prefer the names in XIV to the ones of XI it just has more of a ring to them. I guess it varies person by person but they only look like the old races from XI for familiarity reasons. But because they look like the other races and are based on them and there is a big chunk of FFXI players it is only natural for majority of those people to refer to them as such.

I too would have really liked XIV to be based in Ivalice and what not but whatever it definitely would have had a more Final Fantasy feel to it with the towns and the lore of Ivalice behind it. Though FFXIV originally was code name Rapture and was not supposed to be a Final Fantasy title. SE originally had stated it was going to be a non FF title.

so uhh... you don't like that they fashioned the races after the races in XI, and are questioning whether or not Eorzea is enough it's own world... yet you want them to copy the races from other FF games (viera, etc), and worlds (Ivalice)?
