    Gridania, Summoner? Pfft
Limsa's Arcanists, with Summoner as their Job. There you have it.
Thief, really? Really? You can't put the thieves in Ul'Dah? Shame on you, my friend.

Ninja and Samurai, now that's a little bit more complex. Then again, you do know that Paladins are merely the Sultansworn, right? They're not warriors of light, they're just the Ul'Dahn royal guard. That, heavens, would make it very easy to put the Samurai as the pirate lords of Limsa and Ninja as Gridanian deep forest trackers.

    Nope.

From the thread about unimplemented classes from back at launch:
    [Arcanist]
    - A Disciple of Magic that makes use of magic along with mechanics.
    - Their guild is currently located in Limsa Lominsa.
    - Their magic skill is called "Arcanima."
    - Their auto attack is called "Magic Missle", which uses "arcance" magic. Damage type varies with equipped item.
    - They can use "Create Distaff" to create Arcane Distaffs and use "Animate Distaff" to animate them, placing them down and activating them. Distaffs are items imbued with power by the arcanist. They can be placed down as traps, arcanima fields, and more. There is a limit number of distaffs that can be placed down per party, and they have a set duration.
    - Their actions "Create Distaff" and "Animate Distaff" are similar to "Refill" as Archer or normal attacks as classes. They cost no action points, MP, or TP.
    - Their weapon is a combination of a staff and mechanics.
Sounds more like Puppetmaster to me. Also seeing as how Arcanists use very mechanical looking staffs that are in the game already...

And before you go all like "That was from launch, things have changed," in that thread there was a list of unimplemented abilities for existing classes at the time of launch, half of which now have been implemented as of the ability revamp or as job skills.

This doesn't mean that I don't want SMN in the game, I really do, it just won't come from Arcanist.

Hrm... Of that I was unaware at all! That is great!
However, I see more as Arcanist splitting into Puppetmaster and Summoner, one of which focuses on 'the power of man' and the other goes down the path of 'the power of god'. Essentially, each one has a pretty different take, one of them is very offense-heavy the other far more support/trap based.
I mean, this is really just having ideas for it, and those abilities don't seem to be too dissonating from a summoner's 'archetype', and although it has a pretty different theme, it's just a matter of putting in some imagination and a nifty twist.

Maybe, but if Summoner is implemented, I'd rather see them deal with lesser spirits/elementals as their Class and then their Job abilities deal with Carbuncle/Diabolos/Fenrir (ex non-Primal spirits).

But your idea could work if they do a job overhaul that gives jobs more than a 5 skill difference from classes, I just feel like splitting jobs would leave things two similar between the two the way it is now.

Either way, I can see the lore behind SMN's class (Evoker or whatever it'll be called) being something like "After the Black Shroud gets nuked by the Empire, the Elementals of the wood realize that there's nothing left to gain, and things will only get worse, by being passive guardians and decide to aid select individuals by allowing those individuals to call them in times of need." Or something like that.
