It seems we have two differant situations at hand.

Situation1: Low drop rate but spamable dungeon.
Situation2: High drop rate but cooldown.

Most of us know Situation 2 was the system in FFXI. A great game that was successful for many many years.

When looking at situation 1 you can see right away that the ability to pick up the game and grab a party for Endgame at anytime you want is more focused for Casual players. Which is what SE wanted with FFXIV.

When looking at Situation 2 you see that it would have to be more of a planned scheduled event that has to take presence over RL if you want to atend the event. Not for the Casual players.

It looks like Situation 1 is what FFXIV is going to be...

The only thing you can hope for is that SE decides to add Both situations in the game to cater for all kinds of players.

I liked the OP solely because of the title.

    Didn't read anything else.

I do understand what your are saying Alhan, but perhaps I didn't make my clear what I suspect. I think your proposal might have been the frame their final system was based on. Lets just say for reference that X = 2 hours and Y = 5% (note: arbitrary numbers for illustration purposes.) This system would favor hardcores the most. Causal player who can only log in for two hours a day could run the content once. Their chance at at drop 5%. Now lets say hcores can spend 12 hours logged in a day so they can run it 6 times. 6 x .05 = 30% chance at drop per day. As you can see hcore players will quickly run out of incentive to do the content making it harder for casuals to form parties or learn from more experienced players.

    How do you balance this? I think they used fatigue and lowered the timer for wins. X = 15 min, Y @ 0 wins per 24 hours = 5%, Y @ 2 wins per 24 = 2.5%, Y 4 wins = 1.25%, and so on.

Now say a casual gets two wins in their two hours and then logs off. Chance of drop = 10%. Hcore also gets two wins per two hours and runs for 12. (2 x .05) + ( 2 x .025) + (2 x .0125) = 17.5% chance of drop.

Hcore players will be able to get complete sets before casuals, but the gap between the two groups isn't blown wide open. So they can still increase their chances by spamming the content with a low lockout, however diminishing returns kick in on their ability to get many wins.

**Just realized I didn't give enough wins to the Hcer in my example, but I'm about to run to dinner with my wife so I'm not fixing it. I think you can see where I'm going with this.**

Oh for the record I have done at lease hundred runs on both and 0 body drops and im ok with that because before MMO's became handmeWoWouts content was grinded for good drops.
Yea / No i See your point in many players who whine about things like "jump" "mounts" and i need them now i can see your side on how some players have that entitlement behavior. But a MMO like and everyone always compares ot or wants a FFXI-HD but they did alot of things right before abyssea came out . Many players would still be playing FFXI if they would have dropped console support on ps2 and went to PS3 and added content that didnt break all the hard work you already done its that simple .

Now i posted this in other forums and some people touched on it here every event or endgame content that was on FFXI that was instants minus KINGs you got something that was usefull or a sence yeah im going to need that or yeah we just didnt waste 14-18hrs on AV/CC and got 500 explorers pants

    2-3day cooldowns would be great

    Dynamis - AFv2
    currency

    Limbus Ancient Beastcoins
    -AFv2
    Items to make AFv1 +1

Sky Weapons ( trigger nm's "Ullikummi" "Zipacna" dropped weapons and stones were 100%)
    Abj.
    Armor

    Salvage Armor
    Alexandrite

Basically that game was built in the principals of Having to be skilled community and was also main thing everyone in a shell wasnt about themselves well in most shells but the content like old instances and their drop rates were better and more rewarding then current system .

Also this game is talking about AF weapons like relics in 11 and i think that relics or anything thats held to that standard should require some effort to obtain not spamming to to rak million times to get them . im waiting for 2.0 to see if the game will survive to be honest im tired of seeing the same speed runs day in and day out and then the complete and utter crap that is primals in this game is something i would love to not see in2.0 thats all i typed too much

This is madness... There are tons of same thread complaint about the drop rate.

Why you guys are so crazy about the item? Even you get them all no one will care about it.

And if you can get it easily do u think what will happen next? Everyone will get it and wear it and you will look the same as anyone else and know what....no one care about it.

And can I aske you that when you got everything, do you plan to do it again? I think no.

And the worst part is, everyone will cry for new more content over and over and the dev cannot make it in few days and you guys will complain again.

I think dev and yoshi-p know what they are doing. Those gears are rare and it need to keep rare drop. I recommend that you should stop schedule run it cuz it very stress to do and I know it. Try to join if you feel like playing the game and wish you'll lucky.

LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.

If the devs are smart about this, introduce a mixture of new content with higher drop rates and cool-down, as well as more of the current type with low drop rates and frequent access.

The hard-cores will have lots to do with the non-cooldown stuff, and the moderate/casuals will enjoy higher drop rates with limited-access content.

Of course, the problem is (and will be) that too many players feel that they should be entitled to everything in the game, and should never be out of stuff to do, regardless of their play style or schedule.

Good luck making those types happy...

Situation2: High drop rate but cooldown.

Most of us know Situation 2 was the system in FFXI. A great game that was successful for many many years.
We didn't play the same XI.

It was long cooldown + low drop rate.
    • Salvage was once a day, drop rate were just horrible.
    • Limbus was once every 72hr, drop rate on AF+1 wasn't that bad considering you could pick the piece you wanted to upgrade, still 2 drops needed, so it lower your odds of getting them. Omega/Ultima were annoying, you couldn't repeat these often...
    • Dynamis was once every 72hr, shit drop rate, especially when you consider the area rotation, if you are in a LS rotating all areas, you'll end up doing the area you need once every 3 weeks or so...
    • BCNM/KSNM drop rate were horrible for best items too. No cooldown but gathering enough seals was some sort of cooldown (not like you could spam KS99...)
    • HNMs had a decent drop rate, very high cooldown for some of them + competition factor (which is just like dividing drop rate in the end)...
