Give them the job treatment, and limit them to 2 subclasses. The idea about classes getting their own 5 new abilities seems okay, but then you essentially have a job class that can use any ability from any class, and thus jobs will be at a disadvantage. ex a pugilist with job like abilities but can still use cure.
It's doable I guess, but it would be a pain to balance.
Just leave it like it is. The system is pretty good, we just need more jobs to branch from. If you get rid of classes you also have to rethink the entire leveling system. Personally I'd rather just level a hand full of classes and then do content to branch into jobs, than have to level up every job by itself.
Boom!
We don't want them better. But we want them. It's all about situation.
Example: You put together a party for a content where the endboss use a powerfull aoe, like a primal fight. You don't want to make the boring WHM, WAR, BLM setup. Now you have some jobs in the party with no sentinel. Would it not be better if 1 BLM change to THM for AoE Sanguine Rite?
You see? It's all about the situation.
No thanks, just Abolish Classes, there is almost no need for them any more.
Wait.. so when gladiator gets to 30 or whatever, they suddenly get limited to two classes for cross-class abilities? What's the point? Or do you mean you have to get a gladiator job stone? If so, why not just call whatever you are thinking of as the new gladiator something else, for arguments purpose let's say legionnaire or something, and keep gladiator like it is?

Uh.. yeah, you need to go have a beer and rethink this.

The idea is that classes be abolished, if they can't outright scrap them they can turn them into jobs. At 30 you can choose to unlock PLD or just stick to GLA but now GLA gets a quest at 30 for a new ability, another @35 then 40 then at 45 starts unlocking its own unique AF.Wait.. so when gladiator gets to 30 or whatever, they suddenly get limited to two classes for cross-class abilities? Should you do this what happens to PLD? personally I'd like to see it be unlocked @30 and go from there, the whole GLA 50 unlocking PLD gets a lv50 PLD from the start is too "easy". (And yes I'm willing to get my battle levels bombed down to 1 if it means getting a better system)
For argument's sake call the pre lv30 class "Swordsman" that can go either PLD or GLA, and both start off at lv30 and even after you cap both if you remove the stone you go back into being a lv30 Swordsman and that's where its capped. the easy-mode equip anything class stays 30, and if you want to go further pick a job and level it up.
No thanks.Only the idiots think jobs out perform classes @ everything.
Because sometimes it seems like the only way to solve the problem.
I honestly can't believe and don't understand there are people going "But I don't wanna be a job!" around here.
Having class gear that the jobs can't wear would be stupid. The jobs are just an extension of the classes. Why would they not be able to put on the same clothing, plus more, when they use the same actions, plus more?
