The comment that you're giving an honest answer to absolute strangers in an online space of randoms to general "how're you?" greetings even when you're doing poorly just has us inferring that. Even if incorrectly. That's considered rude in common IRL and online social etiquette and limited to being something you do with people you've already built rapport with. As insane as it sounds, the *literal meaning* of the question is tossed aside in certain contexts and is no deeper than "Hello."

Empathy isn't catering to strangers that don't help themselves or make the space everyone exists in uncomfortable. And that's, unfortunately, the vibe I get from what you've said.

Honestly the whole comment feels like your expectation of a friendly and welcoming community meant everyone trying to be a best friend to each other and not the reality of players just being considerably more chill and helpful than, say, WoW's player base. Which is almost entirely why FFXIV built the rep in the first place. We're mostly all more relaxed than WoW players because of how FFXIV is built. WoW, meanwhile, has a reputation of having a vile community when it really isn't a poisonous quagmire like it's generally stated because of how much more is expected from individuals and how much harder difficult content is pushed.



I've found several sections of this community via my own FC and online creative spaces that absolutely do reflect the friendly atmosphere FFXIV is known for and have built real friendships. It took effort and time just like with any relationship and it equally too effort and time to find those niches.

That said, I agree the ERP in FFXIV is rampant and there is an assumption by most players in those scenes that all players are just like them. I have long since moved off servers that have larger RP communities and rarely go to Limsa because that just isn't my thing.

But, those aren't my characters. If that's what you want to look at for the 1000s of hours you play FFXIV, then cool, you do you. I'll judge you silently over here because I'm not interested in stirring drama like a pearl clutching prude and we can still be cool if we do land in content together like adults.

They probably find my characters ugly and boring so eh.
