Well, we are getting PvP no matter what, so why not make it good pvp? There is suppose to be fixes to also make PvP better, like if that animation fix really happens, PvP will be A LOT better. Some games are meant for pvp, some games aren't. FFXIV is just not a pvp kind of game, its mechanics are not made for pvp and are not pvp friendly. Final Fantasy isnt even a pvp franchise, so I think its silly ppl are even requesting it. I only like PvP in games that are good for pvp. I'll play GW2 for my PvP fix whenever i need it, but I have no desire to see PvP in FFXIV because its just not that kinda game.
You can't make good pvp here. Its impossible imo. You'd have to make it a different game altogether lol.
Frontlines is technically open world since it is a zone dedicated to PvP.
"it is a new area, the three Grand Companies of Eorzea will battle over control of newly discovered ancient ruins and the secrets that lie within. Details will be revealed through quests." as the pdf outlines says.
I'll imagine that the Garleans will also want their hands on the ancient ruins. That would make a great large scale PvPvE

I'm drooling over the concept of pvp in FFXIV. the last 7+ years of my MMO life have been dedicated to pvp, and I think this game has huge potential.
it will be a long long road to a balanced system, but it always is, along the way we'll have tons of fun with super OP classes, and nerfs. can't wait!
I completely disagree. I see the foundations of a PVP in this game that has never been seen before in this genre. Crowd control, varied AOE, and the strong position based battles of the game can make this game's pvp amazing. It has so much potential for teams based around strategy and not just pure power.
There's just a few things I would recommend to make the pvp more strategic. Add character collision between the 2 opposing sides. That means opponents can't walk through each other. This would allow classes/jobs like the Paladin to have more purpose. They can protect their DDs and healers at choke points. Another recommendation would be to make it so that you can not target something if you can't see it. This way, healers and ranged dps must be able to see their target. (graphic design ocd does not allow orphans)
My last recommendation, and the most important, is to have great map design. I don't want to see just a huge circle or square. I want to see maps that are comparable to the great maps of counter-strike. Bottlenecks, multiple venues of attack, etc.

When all else fails, Heck the Bed.
Yup, either a dev or Yoshida said that semi-recently. I'm not in a digging mood right now, so someone else can look for it if they want to.Don't quote me on this, but I want to say somewhere that the reason animation lock is such a bad problem now is that the upper half an the lower half of the body share animations, so they can't seperate the two. Which leads me to believe in 2.0 that a lot of things like buffs will only have an upper body animation like in WoW or TERA, where you can run and still have an animation for buffing/some magic at the same time. How this applies to things such as WS', which SE is known to be very intricate about, is still in the dark though.
XI:Shadowtaru (Alexander)Manifest(Shiva) Volnaru (Asura)
1.0: Delirium Impulse (MysidiaGungnir)
ARR:Dashe Herate (Sargatanas)Dashe Voln (Excalibur)
I'm a PVP nut and I'm just going to throw in my 2 cents here:
I would love to see objective based team PVP just like in XI... but not simply a reincarnation of ballista. It seems the team has some solid vision for how to differentiate this title from XI, and I'd like to see that reflected in the PVP experience. Making people play with only people from their Grand Company, for example, is a good way to reinforce the story and also a way to create some fun rivalries.
And by the way: in before Warrior OP.
To the people just stopping by to say that PVP shouldn't be added...
I understand you are not interested in PVP, but that is why they are designing it to be completely optional and restricted to certain zones. All you have to do is not do it.
But it is coming.
YES!
pvp is the funnest part of MMO's imo. it's challenging and rewarding. after years of being involved in top tier pvp, I noticed that a lot of people fear it, not so much because they might not be good at it, but because of the peer pressure to not suck. there's nothing to be afraid of, just do it, give it a shot, and ignore anyone that says "qq" "gimp" "noob" etc. those are the people more worried about what others think than you.
it's all about expanding your interests, and this game does have a huge potential for something new and epic, but it will take baby steps to get it right. if it's challenging and fun, and it inspires you to do better, then you've already won.
I'm going to have to agree FFXIV right now doesn't seem like it would work too well with "open world" PVP, though the battle arena looks like it would work well, or a specific map made for open world PVP with high leveled monsters.
Anyway, for open world PVP they should have a risk factor, where you can lose gear and such, I played a few MMORPGs with PVP like this and it was the funnest I ever had in mmorpgs. You'll only lose your gear if you kill too much, but all ur invent drops from being killed regardless etc. I see no point in PVP if there isn't a system similar to that, or atleast a ranking system(like their planning)
As for Tera's PVP, I find almost no point to participating in it... It's too gear based.
GW2 PVP looks fun and the fact it's balanced is a plus, it has WvW too
D3 pvp looks like it has the hardcore type of PVP i've been looking for again, although I really hate playing scary things lol
I don't know any other good PVP mmorpgs coming out
