It was the explicit prize as advertised as SE. My expectations were completely inline with what was told.
And that's exactly how it went for a decade, until a sudden flip of the switch
You got the title prestige at least and experience of playing in the past which is something newer players will never ever get to experience, anyway yeah don't trust yoship-p's words.
That is literally how it was framed. It has nothing to do with values. Aside valuing SE's words as being truthful just to be rugpulled later. This is a video game. It's all pointless. The prestige you earn. The pixels you get. It's all nothing and it's as pointless now with the change as it was before.
Your values here are a bit misaligned if your takeaway is that you expected having to spend a month grinding an MMO 10 years ago was going to forever crystallize as a prestigious achievement you could forever hold onto.
I still have yet to hear a convincing answer as to why SE should not create -new- armor for the PvP set instead of bringing back the old one that they lied about being exclusively one-time only.

I don't think this is a healthy approach to have, especially not for a videogame. You were pointlessly stressed for a month grinding a gamemode you didn't enjoy, and now you wish that others should be pointlessly stressed in the same way? Why not be happy that there DOESN'T need to be this degree of frustration in a game you probably like? The lie is that it was the only opportunity for me to get it which was the only reason I participated at all
If I could've just waited and skipped the whole ordeal, like everyone now gets to enjoy, that would've been what I did
I still feel sick remembering how cringe of a month grinding that game mode was, never have I been so pointlessly stressed before. I can still remember it like it was yesterday, even the dangerous player names to look out for each match
I've been there, too. Lots of people have been in these situations, even if it wasn't specifically in FFXIV. Grinding out PvP in some other videogame for months feeling like it's your second job, booting the game up every day and working up the motivation to press that queue button, even though deep down you don't want to. And I'm so, so happy I don't need to do that at this moment. Even happier that my friends won't have to. Do you have friends who play FFXIV? Someone who gives you a reason to think about what other players feel?

If anything this is the perfect example of what players in this community are ready to endure just because they want a reward, no matter how toxic a specific piece of content is to them mentally.
Secretly had a crush on Mao
Because the people putting in the demand for old stuff to come back are not doing it because they want more PvP rewards or more accessible stuff, it's because they want the stuff that once was accessible but is now not to be accessible again because they like the appearance of those specific sets. That is literally how it was framed. It has nothing to do with values. Aside valuing SE's words as being truthful just to be rugpulled later.
I still have yet to hear a convincing answer as to why SE should not create -new- armor for the PvP set instead of bringing back the old one that they lied about being exclusively one-time only.
I mean, there is an option for 'middle ground'. A dye-able recolor of those OG special-super-unique-reward sets as a 'new' reward, but let's be honest, that's extra effort and wouldn't make the people miffed about it any less angry, so there's no point.
It's like that meme comic about a guy who wants to just order coffee and yall are the cashier offering all the weird mixed drinks (aka 'compromises') when all the guy wants is to be able to get some plain old coffee (aka access to the old sets).
I'll be honest, I don't even know what those sets look like or why the demand for them been enough for SE to even bother (must be VERY high for them to actually, yknow, do something over nothing), but it is absolutely hilarious that people defending the idea of permanent exclusivity do so while closing their eyes and ears and pretending like they do not understand the one and only reason why people want it. "Oh, they want more rewards for PvP!" no they want access to those clothes "They want to steal our glory!" they just want the clothes "They must want more clothing options to be added" no, they want those specific ones "They just want to push out us oldheads" they dont even know you exist they just want the outfit.

I promise you 99.9% of the people defending the exclusivity of the stupid armor sets would cheer and clap like seals if they brought back a previously-exclusive reward they liked and did not have
But yeah, crying stolen valor over pixels lmfao

I think the stolen valor argument is at least understandable, if what they release is indiscernable from the genuine article (i.e. no Replica distinction). But for the design in general? Yeah, that one's a bit much.
They did explicitly state that the new releases would be 'replicas' so that argument is moot already.
