I feel like, if there is even one person in your party for whom it is their first time, then it should be unskippable, out of respect for their experience. However, if there are no first timers in the group, perhaps a vote to skip system?

It's not me that's talking about story skippers, that's the producer himself. I've been an avid story/loremonger since I've started, even if my interest in it has done a sharp nosedive since Dawntrail.
Stop being a bigot for a moment and consider where it may actually benefit you as a story enjoyer to have a better fleshed out experience once the skippers are out of the picture with their skip button, will you?

I say the same to all the ppl whom SE heavily caters to, who have no interest in teaming up or having to rely on other ppl. Why are you playing an MMO? But that is met with derision. Which makes zero sense if you think about it at all, since one option only effects the player, but the other effects literally everyone.

Guys is it bigoted to say people playing an MMORPG should play it like an MMORPG? Only reason I'd support an option like that is if someone's already experienced the story and is playing on an alt. Also there is a way to deal with story skippers, it's called making the MSQ more involved so they realize this might not be the game for them.

Yoshi P should not be talking off the top of his head, he is really kicking a hornets nest.

Square is going to retire him eventually it sounds like...

If there is a story skip button then they lose out on the writing they boast about very detrimental to this MMO this sounds like they are planning to drop writing quality.

I mean if story skippers can skip it they have to consider that everyone will skip so if less people are seeing the story less thought has to be put into it.
Why would people that went through the story up to this point waste their time doing the up coming msq?

That's a Stupid idea... very stupid.... the only skip people should get is being able to progress up to the current xpack.

I can get his point but I kind of hope he shies away from it. I think it's good if they hear feedback and incorporate feedback that works with their plans for the game. But they sway far too often in the wind. I want to see their idea for the game more. I may absolutely hate it and if I do then I'll tell them constructively what isn't my personal cup of tea. But I would be happy to see them establishing a set idea for the game. I feel like that was something we had in the earlier eras of the game and then they started to wobble far too much trying to please every single player and that just won't happen. I do think they can find a happy medium to make things appealing to many but they will need to live with the fact that some may decide to move on and that something like that is okay if it means they are more solid in their vision of the game.

The devs need to start putting their foot down at some point and decide not to cater to some people.

On the flipside make a "skip duty" function for those turbo casuals that only want to read MSQ and then afk once they are done so Dungeons are not snoozefests and can be more varied and not see at least 3 threads each expac and patch that "dungeon X or duty Y is impossible!!!1!!"

But block them from queueing into anything they have not completed yet. (Lock their roulettes to the last unlocked content)

That way story skippers can go and do their stuff and turbo casuals that can't be bothered to do their rotation and mechanics have no excuse anymore.
Then of course... make the damn storytelling interesting and make dungeons fun again...

I like that biggest of the MSQ boosts bring a character up to the start of the current expansion.

It actually makes perfect logistical sense for updates but also puts all players, boosted and those that wanted to experience the past MSQ in full, on an equal playing field. You still gotta EARN access to that tough content.

I still think the mentality of wanting to only, exclusively play the high end raiding content is a hold over from WoW conditioning it's players to only enjoy endgame because that's all the devs actually care about, too. Naturally leveling up in WoW is fundamentally broken and unbalanced but they actually do have some fire high end content, but FFXIV saying no, read and play the story, it's FINAL FANTASY, people get testy.
