    Yes, and to my knowledge and experience they have a very good understanding on how to tune their encounters, i only remember one instance where they had to actually nerf a boss, that was P8 Savage, which had a 2% nerf to it total HP in phase one.

    who decides that the MSQ is required? required for what? Required to unlock harder content, if you dont want to do harder content, MSQ is not required for anything, if you want to play PvP you can do that wihout finishing the MSQ, if you want to play cards, you dont have to finish the MSQ (unless you want to collec all the cards, but then you must do harder content)

    Er... I mean, you're talking about side content I know nothing about, so you may well be right. But isn't it generally accepted that PvE in 14 is its worst feature? All the dungeons are the same formula, and the difficulty of nearly all dungeons, trials and raids is based entirely on resolving DDR nonsense. Like nobody plays 14 for the PvE, surely? The fact they can tune HP correctly seems to miss the point.

    As far as I'm concerned they could use the identical dungeon lay-out for every dungeon, with half a dozen different rigs for the bosses, and I wouldn't find it better or worse. There was some interesting design in ARR, but that is long gone.

    Oh come on. FFXIV is a story-driven game, paying tribute to the FF franchise. To continue to follow the MSQ story, you definitionally have to advance the MSQ. This requires dealing with the stupid dungeons, not only to get to the next cut scene, but also because some of the story is told in certain dungeons.

    The fact they also gate harder, optional side content is pretty much irrelevant, since everyone progresses the MSQ anyway.

    MSQ is required to unlock most of the game's content, not just higher level pve. Crafting, gathering, sidequests, cosmic explo to come... all are gated by msq. Including the story.
