F2P would really sign the death knell for this game, as much as any MMO actually dies, that is.

Yes the big technicality is the launcher tells you, nothing when you're actually in-game which is the exact point I made in bold text. People can just use quick log and not pay attention, or the other Launcher to not even see the screen by technicality, plus currently the Collab overshadows the Zero Outfit anyways so if your info is saved you can just never see it via quick-log. Steam News Updates do not show the Shop Items either, its entirely listing updates and events.

Also who cares if the Events aren't giving us several upon several things in hand, they could just not give us a thing except quests and little deco in cities and Wards(only bad part of this though is how comical re-listing old event items on the shop for way too high of a price). This is still infinitely better than the slop they shovel in your face weather you like it or not with F2P games, because running things cost money, and if we aren't paying monthly subs, you surely are going to see many more adverts out of game let alone now seeing them in-game. Are you comfortable seeing their high cost Optional gear much more, let alone other content that potentially directly influences your gameplay?

To log ON TO THE GAME, you have to open the LAUNCHER, that shows you all of the new FFXIV merchandise and the items from the cash shop, in what world do you not see that it's basically the same as if it was in the game, if there was no launcher, fine, but you HAVE to go through the launcher, you are FORCED to see the ads on the launcher if you want to play the game.

I appreciate not having to deal with this in XIV. Most people can quickly ignore an ad on the login screen - it's a screen we are already on and most of us just quickly enter our passwords and click into game without reading any of it.

I'm not sure if you just expected an echo chamber of people agreeing with you that the game should be free, but many of us have a lot of experiences with MMOs for up to 25+ years now and have seen it all, and a lot out there is far worse than this.

Try playing a F2P game like Lost Ark and you'll realize how trash this game's combat system and raids are. The only thing the sub fee does in FF14 is to prevent you from spending $10000 through legitimate channels to get BiS. Other than that lmao, the sub fee is clearly not going towards making FF14 interesting or fun or even deliver any meaningful content.

The game already has a cash shop comparable to KMMOs, minus outright buying power with money. But KMMOs are at least fun and have good combat unlike this game. You can go play Lost Ark for a few months and when you hit a P2W gear wall just quit and you'll have a lot of fun in those few months. In this game you pay $73 to play for a month going through a shitty story on a garbage homogenized job with copypasted raids with the same mechanics from 12 years ago. I certainly know which one is better if you don't have an addictive personality.

Are you really using Lost Ark to make an argument? A game that hemorrhaged it's peak of 1,324,761 down to 15K right now, mostly due to it's business model and irritating game systems? It's clearly not that amazingly fun.
