Raiders, why do you consider raiding just not memory games ?

To actually answer OP, Raiding is fun the first couple tiers, then, as you say, it becomes mostly a memory game. And for anyone past their 2nd tier it will generally boil down to a social activity to do with their buddies or static

Usually what I PERSONALLY find fun in raiding (and Ex content I suppose) is the unexpected, trying to recover from pulls that are crashing and burning, learning the fight with a friend, and then trying to squeeze the most of my mitigations in reclears/farm

One exception though would be High Concept and Natural alignment in P8S, where the execution was so fun that I really, REALLY liked that memory game

*As a disclaimer, I only completed the P8S tier, I was too new of a player on P3S and my static disbanded on P12P2S (around caloric theory), and I only have UWU cleared from Ults, currently waiting on a new Pc to hop on Arcadion, low fps after graphical update :c

Raiding isn't a job either. Learning it play the piano or play a sport isn't always a job. Some people do those things for fun.

Playing a musical instrument allows you to entertain yourself and others. I guess if raiding produces the same enjoyment for some people, that's great. Kind of surprised anyone would choose FF14 to scratch that itch though, given the limitations of PvE in the game, from design to interaction.

Well, in my case I had only talked about music sheet in relation to memory & memorizing mechanics/strats, not particularly the enjoyment side since that's not relevant to me for the topic.

This is why I tell people to just quit if they don't like the game. Nothing will change.

I would rather be told this, than those messages that are like "Wait! Patch x.x is gonna be great, I'm sure this time!"

Any kind of repetitive action is going to be dull. What about drills for a sports team? I can't imagine they find that enthralling, but in reinforces habits they need later on when playing through a live game. And having it all pay off while participating in the game can be enjoyable and satisfying.

The vast, vast majority of people don't enjoy practicing the piano or running around the gym a million times.

I agree, I don't find those fun either. Yet there are businesses that fully cater to those that do these things.
Since it seems to be one of their major focuses, XIV has clearly chosen this type of raiding to be what they cater to. You can argue whatever you want but it's ultimately subjective and this is just what their design philosophy is. It's not inherently a wrong thing to do, but it does cause issues like Dawntrail has where if you don't like raiding, there's not much there for you at all. Hopefully 7.2 is the magic Patch that was Promised and will deliver the content™ for people who don't like the raiding.

Presumably because the Director likes such gameplay, as do the streamers who have his ear. As we've seen on these boards, such a focus is only tenable when other aspects of the game are healthy.

Aye. Hopefully the reaction to Dawntrail has been enough to give them some pause and cause them to rethink some things. A simple change up to the scheduled content releases would probably be a big step in the right direction and I'm assuming that would be an easier thing to change. Some grindy relic steps or some such on release and in the .1 patch would go a long way for people.
