It's more a blessing the job hasn't been caught up in their reworks imo. I love how it feels and I don't trust them being able to retain that feel if they try anything too new with it.
From what I've seen on the forum it could be said that being forgotten is the best thing that could happen to RDM, if they remembered it existed - much worse decided to change it, it would probably be SMN mk2.
I mean to be fair PCT shows the caster role isn’t completely dead as PCT is unironically a fantastically designed class
We would far more likely see SMN than PCT but between PCT and SCH the only semblance of decent modern job design exists in the caster role
As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.
I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess
Thinking about it, PCT could literally just be reskinned and it'd work as a SMN design. For example, Muse/Mog/Madeen could be replaced by the lesser primals (Ifrit/Titan/Garuda/Levi/Shiva/Ramuh), Hammer combo by a 3 hit DemiSummoning of Bahamut/Phoenix/another (I'd prefer something more rooted in the lore than Solar but hey), and Starry would be... IDK Dreadwyrm could go here as a 'everyone nearby is infused with Bahamut's aether for a bit for a damage buff, also Star Prism is now Deathflare'
After all, Summons in older games are known for having really long cast times, so the whole 'paint for 4 seconds' thing would fit with the old-games 'SMN identity'. Also, Carbuncle shielding the party (like old games) rather than Tempera Grassa would make a lot of sense. Just a little odd to me that SMN got the rework that it did, yet they managed to come up with this for PCT when it could have fit SMN pretty well too

I would like they remember it only for removing the Raise Taxe (and onlye the Taxe, don't remove the raise).... Because, for years now, RDM is only the "insurance" job while the Ilvl is a bit too low to clear safely a Raid.
When it's not the case anymore, the RDM is ditched for a job with a better DPS.
I mean, we go to Melee range for our Burst, we take risk but we are not rewarded for it DPS Wise and, if the boss enter a Melee Downtime, we are stuck with a capped gauge....
That's one of the changes I would make to SMN: Rather than having Searing Light as the raidwide buff, each major summon (Bahamut, Pheonix, Solar Bahamut (RIP creativity)) has a raidwide effect and each lesser summon has a personal effect. Whether the major summon effect should be a passive for as long as you stay in that phase or just until that summon ends is up for debate, but then that also raises the argument for making major summons like minor summons so you can make strategic choices about which one to summon for it's effect.Thinking about it, PCT could literally just be reskinned and it'd work as a SMN design. Ugh... It HAVE to be AST? Can it at least be SCH (that at least I have it leveled and I have some comfort on playing it)?
SCH certainly has it's perks, I'm no good at it though and in my experience it's easier to transition from WHM to AST, really though play whatever healer you enjoy most, even if it's WAR.

It seems like we are entering a full cycle of an argument again mentioned before earlier. We do have a few new players who have joined our side here, but it's kind of breaking even now. Other players and probably the executives point out that the queue times are still the same. We retort that the players noticed lower healing quality in the runs they were in since we dropped out. The executives retort that the dungeons are still running and chuckle that we've been replaced. It may not be a loss for the strike, but it's still a stalemate at best. Some of the corporate do not know how the product works, do not care or perhaps both. They might only look at factors that they believe makes money for them. As long as anyone fills the roles, the numbers still show up with reasonable queue times for everyone from their end.
I am not trying to be mean about what is happening. After such a long time, I am trying to be realistic about what is going on. We've been trying a lot of the same thing and expecting different results for quite a while. The boycott on queuing was a least one thing different to try out. We are kind of getting a sign that it's still not enough to bring it to our favor. Since the other players do notice when the dungeon runs change in quality, that was why I had some thoughts if we should play the classes that we believe to be contributing to the problem to prove with action we are not bluffing. That way, it might hopefully hasten the process of new healers noticing they are relatively vestigial to the group and drop out faster to see queue times slowly rise. In other words, more people join the cause by voting with their wallet.
I have been noticing Square has been more active with putting up their game ads in even Facebook, so they seem to be counting on the new players replacing the ranks. Since the free trial lasts up to Stormblood, we will still be able to partially showcase what Raw Intuition and Clemency can do before they even spend a dime.
I tried to do the transition and... I hate it.
I had to do 2 or 3 times more work to do what I already do with WHM. It's very clunky, the card system is boring and have no decision making anymore, it plays pretty bad on joystick, it's attack potencies is pitiful (remembering that I use WHM for everything, specially to solo, not just to do selected hard multiplayer content) and hits like wet noodle (even with same equips).
The only upside I see is it's buffs. But even those don't change the fact that AST feels weaker than WHM, gives more trouble for essentially same thing I solve with 1 or 2 buttons with WHM. I feel I am more useful to the party playing as WHM.
As SCH, however, I feel it hitting as hard as WHM. Potencies wise. It's clunky as well, but it is on a bearable level. And its shields is something that really makes the difference when soloing. Lost the count of how many times critlo saved my sorry arse from a tankbuster.
I feel that I just need to understand better the late kit and build confidence to make the switch.
