I'm pretty sure everyone is taught in their teen years that Wikipedia isn't a legitimate source due to how it can be edited by anyone.

Okay? There's plenty of sources linked in the Wikipedia page that back up the origin of where Latinx/Latine came from, which is queer activists of Latin American descent.

It's not like it's being forced upon people, it specifically was created as a gender neutral term for queer people of Latin American descent to use for themselves. You don't have to use it. But it genuinely is a term that queer people of Latin American descent and Latin American use for themselves so I don't really know what your argument is with it.
