I mean if you look at PF's on Crystal pre-patch most will not have a slot for phys range I noticed which IS a bit concerning as I think there is a BIG problem with phys range in that the gain of bringing them does not seem to outweigh the dps gain of a caster or just adding a melee dps. That said honestly its just part of a problem with the concept of phys ranged because they are the only job that straddles 2 functions - bards and dancers do less damage because they bring a special utility; machinist however does not and so any sweeping tweak to the role doesn't work.

Personally given the complaint of healers the only suggestion I can think of that does not involve threading the buffs (essentially making bards a must have for their contribution to overall raid content) would be to really merging the ranged DPS into one of the already existing roles. So like moving machinist into scouting jobs; bard into healers and dancer into striking. adjusting their potency to baseline with their respective roles.
