Thank goodness we had Duty Support for 2/3 MSQ trials because the DPS queues were insane.

It would definitely be more weird and immersion breaking if we were to suddenly encounter adventurers in Amaurot or Ultima Thule... Imo Azem's crystal was a very good solution to that. I saw some commenting that it makes us op, but I really don't understand how it's the case.Happily ignore it. Stormblood of all thigns actually did a perfect job with it and the Susano fight, by just throwing out a quote of "Well, good thing so many adventurers are out ton holiday here..." - I can suspend my disbelief of seven randos appearing out of nowhere just fine, because hey, it's a MMO. But when the game calls attention to the fact that the Scions instant transmission into the scene when they simply *shouldn't*, then immersion is broken far more.
And the issue of Scions (or any other NPCs) "teleporing" to help with the duty is not a mechanic issue, but a writing issue. And yes, there were few instances of those in DT that made me roll my eyes. But that's on writers to improve in the future. Not the reason to scrap the Trust option altogether.
I am confused. Why did they allow trusts for the first two trials but not the last one? It needs to be an all or nothing approach with trusts.
Compared to the past when we've had three or seven adventurers pop up randomly when we're in the middle of nowhere to help us defeat Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Leviathan, Ramuh, Shiva, Ravana, Bismarck, Thordan, Susano, Sri Lakshmi, fused Shinryu / Zenos, Titania & Vauthry?
Do that and there will immediately be the old complaints from players good at combat that they are carrying filthy casuals in trials. Any additional option of how to engage with the content should be encouraged, IMO, and trusts solve multiple problems.
2nd one did feel a little forced, but I loved being able to keep the story going and not have to queue. And our companions were there with us for the lead up so I felt to not do it, ie: "fuck off buddies, I'm going to call some strangers to help" would be rude.
the last one - the story put us on our own as everyone else was handling something else so it made sense.
Yes the Wuk Lmao dislike is real, that is being discussed in other threads and people are going to speak up about it. However I do not wish to create another thread revolving around that, although I realise how I wrote the OP so I have caused this reaction rather than starting a critical conversation about this topic.
To the point at hand though, for example, the Valigarmanda trial at 93, although built up in an okay manner at best, it still has to shoehorn in Zarool Ja to do a complete 180 and help the group to create the 8 required for a Trust fight, despite this not being a part of his character, which is pretty jarring and especially so once you see how he pans out throughout the rest of DT.
The level 99 trial Trust team creation is pretty inexcusable, with several Scions just appearing out of thin air to fulfil the requirements for a Trust fight. It really is quite grating on the narrative and the build ups to these fights, this is unfortunately a writing problem.
Let's suppose that they did not plan in EW to have trusts for trials? That doesn't mean they can't use it later. The first computer was created to do math. Should we all quit playing games on our computers and only use Excel? LOLI genuinely think that if the plan was to have the Trust system as a consistent add on for Trials moving forwards, they would have had the Trust system for Endsinger and the Scions would have ridden on the back of Zenos with us. It came across as going to be a one time thing during the Hydaelyn trial in EW.
It's called innovation and when developers find something people like in one portion of a system (or game) they are going to see if it works well for other portions.
I love how so many people ignore the argument of "because of Trusts, it changes the narrative of the game, in one instance nonsensical" and just spout "don't use Trusts then" without even trying to understand the point. Thing is, even if a player were to not use Trusts, said player would still watch the cutscenes in the MSQ, where suddenly Character N appears out of nowhere.
Square Enix needs to write the story in a way that puts Trusts in the general area of the instance, to justify their existence in the Instance. That is the issue OP is pointing out, and I have to say, I quite agree with that stance. Its not that the Trust system is a bad thing, its that it impacts the story in noticeable ways.
RIP Viper 28/06/2024 - 30/07/2024. It was a fun month.
