    While you are correct, this is the worst take possible. People like you would have had FF14 DoA. Remember it was people that complained about the game when it launched that got the game essentially remade and the developers issuing an apology as to why the game sucked. If everyone took the stance of "it's their game, they can do as they want" you wouldn't be posting about FF14 today because it wouldn't be a game at this point. It took the people complaining to make that change. White knighting for the company doesn't help any more than people complaining.

    Product quality and Maintenace are 2 entirely separate issues. I'm all for providing feedback and holding game developers accountable.

    Throwing a hissy fit and demanding compensation for what is a minor inconvenience for the sake of fixing game breaking issues isn't justifiable. My approach is direct and probably a little insensitive sure, but we could also just not have the game at all like the xbox players who had to suffer being unable to access a product they purchased just like everyone else.

    It's not white knighting just because it's not all rainbows and sunshine. Everyone who's been around in XIV for a while knows that the dev team is pretty good about trying to make Maintenace as little of a disruption for as many folks as possible whenever they can.

    Problems are problems, how they are handled is up for criticism always. This was handled poorly. As a company you don't tell the masses to step aside for the 1% (if that). That's bad business and to call them on it isn't wrong it's actually helpful. That they need four hours on a weekend to fix a problem people are saying has been an issue for going on two weeks now is also an issue. Part of that, I'm sure, if the fact they go in bed with Microsoft to start. Every update has a massive scrutiny it has to go through before MS will allow it. That causes delays that normally wouldn't be needed, to get in bed with MS and now have to cater to 1% of the player base that's locked behind them was a bad choice. Again, all problems, choices and decisions are worthy of criticism.

    Could it have been handled better? Maybe, but I'm not a software engineer or skilled in any kind of server system upkeep, so I can't really say one way or the other.

    What I can say is, is that it doesn't matter that it's the xbox platform that had this issue.     It does matter though, you and the Xbox players might not like it but it's hard to find a worse time for downtime then they picked. That the update has to go through MS scrutiny means this was pushed to this time frame as well. Once you get in bed with MS you live by their rules. They now dictate when things can roll out, such as this. If 1% of the population is impacted it's absolutely different than if 60% is. To act like it's not is simply not business smart. Now I'm not stomping my feet complaining about being compensated or boycotting the game like some are, I will however push back on people that just accept bad business decisions. Simple acceptance is why companies don't make solid business decisions to start. Massive distance between "this shouldn't happen do better" and "compensate me or I'm boycotting".
