Highlander Eyebrows - 7.0 Graphics

I'm a bit concerned we've taken this thread too far off the rails debating the history of Highlanders. Ruin, this is your thread so if you feel we've gone too far off topic just say so and I'll drop the subject.

I mean, I don't really care about having lore discussions, but the reality is that we have very little concrete lore or evidence, so it seems sort of irrelevant to debate it.

The bottom line is, there isn't anything that says we can't have eyebrows. It's not genetic, so cultural or not, our WoL may or may not adhere to it.

My feelings on the matter are that Highlanders were originally designed without eyebrows and SE simply doesn't care enough to change it. Highlanders are overall a small portion of the population compared to other races and aren't even on SE's radar for feedback or changes.

I don't mean to rant about it, but with the graphics update it's been a little frustrating to see feedback addressed on popular races when Highlanders don't even have the option for a basic common facial feature.

Not that anyone should be surprised....but still no eyebrows. The new benchmark is out. The face paint does seem to look like the placement is better. However, because of the added detail to face and hair, it looks even more like paint now. I guess I need to decide if I'm remaining a Highlander. I just don't enjoy animal hybrid races.

Face paint is somewhat fixed, yes. My only problem is now that face paint color swatches aren't necessarily the same to hair color.

What that means is that eyebrow paint color is too comical if using any shades of brunette on hair. Seems we are doomed to be all black-haired lad lol

Orrrrr Square Enix, this is just crazy suggestion, but why not give us eyebrow already?

I was low-key hoping Yoshi P would surprise us by sneaking some lovely highlander supercilia into the updated benchmark...

Yeah I've played around with it for a bit, and I think I can get by with the face paint eyebrows. At least they fixed the placement, but I feel like the paint and scars don't blend well with the new face textures because they still look the same as the current version.

I'm glad to report that the clipping issues I posted on page 3 of this thread have been fixed. I thought they would go unnoticed, but they sorted it. Cheers devs.

The eyebrow facepaint has also been put back to its old position, so it's not sitting 10 feet higher than it's supposed to. It still hasn't been up-res'd but I personally find it hard to notice unless I stick the camera right up in the characters face.

I don't think the position has been fixed. At the very least it's still not at the same placement as it is in Endwalker.



Left is Endwalker, Right is Dawntrail. There are a lot of things about the "upgrade" I'm unhappy with, but let's focus on the Face Paint Eyebrows. The placement of these markings is positioned significantly higher on the brow than it was pre-Dawntrail. This makes the character look more "surprised" all the time rather than more serious.

Additionally, even with the darkest color (black) selected, the shade appears lighter or less vibrant than it currently is pre-Dawntrail. This makes it difficult to pass these markings off as eyebrows, as the lighter they appear the more fake they look.

It's difficult to see your comparison with that haircut. I pulled up the 1.0 and 1.1 versions of the bench and made a comparison of both Face 2 and Face 4.

I just want to point out that your Face 2 image (I haven't checked the other) isn't aligned correctly. I've added red lines to show you.



Once you move the 1.1 head so that the bottom of the chin, bottom of the nose, and bottom of the eye aligns with the EW image, then the eyebrow facepaint on the 1.1 image is going to shift quite a bit higher and pass through that black line. So the eyebrow facepaint in Dawntrail is still quite a bit higher than it is in Endwalker.
