That's probably cause:
A) Everyone WoW that was coming over to FFXIV was brand new at the time was behaving all googly eyed over it for reaction content.
B) Reaper was essentially Necromancer which at the time was a job MANY MANY people were asking for. The moment everyone saw the Scythe, it was the biggest hype around. It also pleased both masculine and feminine groups equally.
As for Pictomancer, nobody was really asking for Pictomancer until Yoshi-P wore the TMNT shirt. Some people feel a bit let down and even betrayed after Yoshi-P made a portion of the community believed we were going to get brand new original jobs and not classic fan service jobs. For some people, Pictomancer is to girly in their opinion, and they are tired of this game putting feminine things front and center. Lastly, for some, a paint brush isn't a serious weapon. One of my friends even said that they are glad picto came after EW because they wouldn't have been able to immerse themselves seriously against Zeno if they were using paint. Some people just can't see a painter as a serious combat job, and just feel it's more so Twitter artists can feel more immersed with their irl job of being a painter.
I've seen all of these complaints around, yes even the twitter one. To them, its nothing more than LGBT the job, since most twitter artists are exactly that and therefore it feels immersive breaking to them that every time they think of Pictomancer they just think of Twitter instead.
Overall, I'm pretty sure Viper has more hate than Picto since the Corsair crowd was more disappointed and louder than the Green Mage crowd. Most of the Green Mage crowd was just hoping for a true support role akin to Dancer.
Edit: There is also a small portion of people that are upset because they thought Painter could have gone to crafting instead.
Edit 2: Some people are fine with Pictomancer as well, but just hate that Krile is becoming a star figure this expansion when they find her uninteresting.
