    From memory:

    Craftsmanship = Success for physical recipes.
    Magic Craftsmanship = Success for magic recipes.
    (Not much info out there on how to tell which is which though)

    Control = Reduction in chance of unstable elements.

    Also you can mouseover the stats in-game now if you have popup help on, they say what Sephrick said.
    Yeah you can synthesize items with magical and physical characteristics...
    Felt pants is magical or physical and why?
