Anytime it devolves into bickering and nitpicking between the parties it’s a fucking eyesore. I wasn’t aware there was external involvement until recently and while unconfirmed it’s probably likely their post engagement is driven from that.

That being said their criticisms of the game while potentially controversial are sure as shit not unpopular. It makes sense why those posts receive the engagement they do.

This has happened to me - It's really psychotic behavior.

I've had people literally sit at my house, and tell their FC to also sit at my house and harass me. It's so fucked. Took like 2 weeks of reporting them to GMs for it to stop.

It's also an instant report of harassment, which SE supposedly takes seriously. Though from some of the threads seen here on the forums they don't actually take as seriously as proclaimed.

Wow, that is actual degeneracy. Shocking it took 2 weeks to stop harassment like that. I mean, maybe shocking is the wrong word. Sad I guess?

A lot of people on the forums get mocked and ridiculed for posting with throw away alt characters on their profile, but it's a bit of protection really. Some would view it as a sign of weakness and a lack of backbone. But it's really just, we don't want to be bothered in-game over stuff from the forums. People on Twitter, Reddit, and even Twitch chat can all post confidently their thoughts without it being traced back to their main characters. The forums is much different. If you say an opinion piece and you are on the wrong side of the argument, people will know, and it could follow you. Depending on what you said/did. Some would say that's called being held accountable, but I'd just rather have that stress-free anonymous feeling that you can get from the other forums.

Yes after seeing some stuff that happens, I wouldn't blame anyone for not posting on their main myself.

Well there's no way to prove that, unfortunately. If a person made a large number of posts siding with an obvious forum troll then it's natural to assume they're in cahoots. And they'd obviously deny it either way. Nothing strange about it, that's just the nature of forums plagued by a troll with like 20+ alts (or a group of 20 people with an agenda, or somewhere inbetween, who can say).

In order for there to have been civility, the original post would have to be civil as well, instead of being a question in regards to a preconceived notion you already had; that being that the people who feel "silenced" are the only ones who may feel a certain way about the forums being better without their opposition there.

The question was disingenuous. It wasn't a "do you feel like the forums would be better if either side were more open-minded to opposing ideas?" (which yes, it would be.) It was a "do the complainers feel the forums would be better if the defenders left", which is bias and ill-spirited.

As for why people comment? Because they have something to say. This is a forum. You can't gatekeep the reactions people have to what you say.

I think everyone can agree people need to be less blind to differing opinions in order for there to be any meaningful discussion. And until that happens, every discussion will turn into a pissing contest. Including this one.

It's not a disingenuous question. From my perspective people with criticism don't like when folks like me speak up n offer our points. It doesn't seem to matter how we do it, just that it happens. I didn't make a statement to whether these people are right or wrong. I simply genuinely wonder if these people would rather have defenders not speak so their criticism had no pushback as again, to me that's how it seems. If it's disingenuous to speak from the perspective that folks call me all sorts of things n that's something I personally see far more from one side then idk what to tell you other than, no it isn't.

I've even expressed that both side do have issues and that things would be better if either was more opened minded but I'm not going to pretend I haven't been a prime target. Bias is going to be a part of it just like bias is a part of what you just said here. Next gatekeep reactions? Did I say folks can't comment? Is asking why someone comments on what they supposedly think is a troll thread gatekeeping now? If I am truly some troll you're wasting your time.

civil discussion, respect for others and an internet forum has never been a thing even in the dawn of the internet era.

once you allow anonymity, civil and respect fly out the window because there is generally zero personal consequence. I am certain that if you met most people on the forums on the street they would be just regular people for the most part. put them behind a computer screen and most however, let out their personal Mr/Mrs Hyde
