Now we have the "like" button it might make it a bit easier to see how many people are happy with the current system and how many are not. So if you want to scrap it and go with a more traditional system "like" this post if not then like the one below and we have a little makeshift Poll ^^
SE is obviously prepared to make big changes to get FFXIV back on track ie Zone redesigns so maybe they will also go as far as changing the whole system if people want more defined roles and actual jobs.
SCRAP CURRENT CLASSES
Basically get rid of the weapon=class thing they have going on and keep weapons for learning weapons skills only that are tied to the weapon (might help with making better animations too) and actual jobs for learning traits, skills and abilities. This would be more like the system used in FFXI where you could be a RDM and use a sword/shield combo, a stave or wand, a DRK using a Scythe, G.Sword, G.Axe, Club, Sword and so on.
To do this they could just change the current class names, so GLA into PLD and whatever your current Rank in GLA would then be transferred to PLD. PLD would then be rebuilt using whatever traits, skills and spells it needed to turn it into a PLD. Sword and Shield would then just be classed as equipment, you would gain Skill up's for your Sword and Shield to increase your level on them that would unlock new weapon skills for them and increase your proficiency with them.
Weapons would then state what Jobs can equip them on an individual basis so for example some Swords could say for PLD, WAR, RDM, DRK, THF others might be exclusive for a certain Job. This means if they add new weapon types they do not have to come up with a new Class and Job to shoehorn into the system. So if they add Great Swords they could be PLD, DRK and WAR right off the bat. They should make it like in FFXI though where each Job does have a A+ weapon that they are best with and weapon should cap a different ranks depending on the Jobs Level.
Finally the ability to change Job on they fly could be added by adding a little button in the menu called Jobs and when you hit it, it brings up a list of Jobs you have unlocked. When you select one it equips all your gear, action bar and macro's you have setup for that Job automatically.
So if that is what you would prefer like this post, if not like the one below.
