Why did they make this game?Damn I'm literally shocked at some of the takes in this thread. Y'all are either brainwashed, don't want to believe the truth, or don't want others to know the truth.
The truth: Square Enix doesn't want to risk the chance of having A SINGLE ONE OF THEIR PLAYERS unsubscribing from the game after they've maxed out their characters. Because if they unsubscribe, that means less money for them.
So that's it, that's the legit reason - corporate greed. You can sugarcoat it with some other BS if you want.
Also I love how there's so many replies who don't even bother explaining the actual reason. They just say "it's normal", or "other MMOs do it too".
Corporate greed.
You could literally claim anything is corporate greed. Why are you able to post on this forum? Corporate greed by SE as well as your ISP as well as the companies that provide power and infrastructure etc etc etc.
There needs to be a reason to log in for 4 months even after you've killed all the bosses once and done all the quests. It's either lockouts, long currency grinds or RNG. I find lockouts to be more player-friendly then the other two.
Of course people don't have to stay subbed for the entirety of a 4 month patch but the lockouts are there to reward those who want to. Players who like to unsub don't have to get any weekly locked gear because in the next major patch they can just get the next uncapped loot before unsubbing again.
Time to rise up in revolt!Damn I'm literally shocked at some of the takes in this thread. Y'all are either brainwashed, don't want to believe the truth, or don't want others to know the truth.

Instead of staying subbed so you can get BiS in all of your jobs, just get BiS for one then unsub. That will show them! Dangling that carrot at the end of a long string isn't enough to get you to support their corporate greed!
Which honestly is the smart thing to do when you're dissatisfied but no, players must stay subbed to teach corporations a lesson!
You're getting played by yourself but refusing to see it. You don't need BiS, you just want it. And you want it enough that you keep paying when you could walk away until the next content release. It's not like not getting BiS is going to lock you out of participating in the next raid release.
As for not everyone saying why the system works the way it does, why keep repeating what others have already said?
- increases content longevity
- increases chances of players who enter the content late to get a group
- promotes more even distribution of loot among players, so RNG doesn't help lucky players gear near instantly while others struggle due to bad luck.
Do you really need 100 players to keep repeating it over and over before the reasons will finally sink into your head?
If you want the satisfaction of gearing up as fast as possible, play a single player game where no one is competing against you for what drops.
Is about more players being available for the raids.
If you could get all the gear in one sit, then you wouldn't need to play the raid again. Meaning less players for the raids.
This is an awful take. What's the purpose of gatekeeping savage equivalent gear after 6 months of the savage tier being released? None. Rubicante should have dropped BIS weapon already, or at least a 630 weapon. And the Hildibrand relic second stage should have been 635. It's fine and fair for savage raiders to have exclusivity in the first months when it comes to gearing etc. But 6 or 7 months later? No, everyone should be able to reach BIS after all those months. You would have people reaching the same gear level as a raider, but that would only last for two or three months, as the next raid tier would come out and raiders would have the advantage again. I know a lot of savage and ultimate players that are chill about gearing, even major streamers like Xeno. But there is always people like you on your high heels that look down at non savage / ultimate players with your complex of superiority, as if we didn't deserve the ILVL you have only because we didn't want or didn't had the time to pull a boss 200 to 1000 times to clear a fight.Because it is endgame loot.
And no, Criterion and Alliance should not give gear equivalent to savage raids cause that would throw off the balance of those raids. Gear progression is a essential part of raiding and throwing that balance off by giving you more choices to get the same level of gear would temper with that.
I am casual too btw. so this is no casual shaming but seriously there is no need for a casual player to have gear equivalent to savage raid gear anyways. You can get easily 630 gear for example which is close to the savage gear itemlevel and for what do you even need it anyways? To better perform in braindead low level dungeons? Your gear won't matter anyways when the next patch hits so there is literally no reason for you to progress beyond what we have now for casuals anyways.
There are so many ways to get gear, we don't need even more or easier ways.
Loot cap is fine, but the loot cap persists for far too long.
Question
Why is getting BiS such a big deal for non-savage/casual players? Cuz like, the only thing I can think of is... What, being able to kill a trash mob that spawns during a patch MSQ quest with one less attack? Wowie zowie, that 2.5 seconds you saved is definitely worth taking away any sort of exclusivity (even if only of timing) that savage raiders get for spending the time to grind out a fight.
t. Casual player who doesn't care, let the raiders have their shinies fer heck's sake
Why is getting BiS such a big deal to hardcore raiders when they've usually cleared the content without it in the first place?Question

You're not going to need it for the next raid release (unless there's an Ultimate coming). New crafted gear will be released with a higher ilvl. And having it equipped is just nerfing the difficulty of everything around you at the same time there are raiders complaining that things are getting too easy.
Casual players have to wait to get their shinies. Hardcore players have to wait to get theirs. Sounds like everyone being treated the same.
higher numbers make ppl go brrrr
I have only a surface-level, spectator's understanding of savage/ultimate content, but aren't the margins between success and failure sometimes razor-thin? At least, the random highlight videos or whatever that I come across seem to have an inordinate amount of run-saving healer LB3s or last-second kills before enrage timer fills. I'll grant you that of course, there's a spectacle bias (I guess you could call it?) where only these "clutch" moments end up being recorded and shared, but regardless... Seems as if, if we're talking about gameplay purposes, raiders have a larger reason for wanting/needing the tip-top gear. Why is getting BiS such a big deal to hardcore raiders when they've usually cleared the content without it in the first place?

My question stands, though, didn't really get answered... Other than FOMO/envy, why do (OTHER, myself very much included) casual players need this apex gear? Or is that basically what it boils down to, just being upset stuff exists that one can't have?
I mean hell, look through my meager post history, and just today I said something similar in a thread about pvp rewards... I don't care if people have shiny things I don't, they engaged with the content. It's ridiculous to me how much everyone in this game seems to hate exclusivity, except/unless they are the ones with the exclusive, and meanwhile I'm just like "bro who cares if the person has a virtual spear that's shinier/has more particle effects than mine"
