Damn I'm literally shocked at some of the takes in this thread. Y'all are either brainwashed, don't want to believe the truth, or don't want others to know the truth.

The truth: Square Enix doesn't want to risk the chance of having A SINGLE ONE OF THEIR PLAYERS unsubscribing from the game after they've maxed out their characters. Because if they unsubscribe, that means less money for them.

So that's it, that's the legit reason - corporate greed. You can sugarcoat it with some other BS if you want.

Also I love how there's so many replies who don't even bother explaining the actual reason. They just say "it's normal", or "other MMOs do it too".

Not like majority plays only on launch of an expasion only. Playing on X.0 and then returning for X.4/5 -> Y.0 allows you to get all the content without delays, without wasting time on gear from in-between tiers and so on.

Why did they make this game?

    Corporate greed.

You could literally claim anything is corporate greed. Why are you able to post on this forum? Corporate greed by SE as well as your ISP as well as the companies that provide power and infrastructure etc etc etc.

Time to rise up in revolt!

Instead of staying subbed so you can get BiS in all of your jobs, just get BiS for one then unsub. That will show them! Dangling that carrot at the end of a long string isn't enough to get you to support their corporate greed!

Which honestly is the smart thing to do when you're dissatisfied but no, players must stay subbed to teach corporations a lesson!

You're getting played by yourself but refusing to see it. You don't need BiS, you just want it. And you want it enough that you keep paying when you could walk away until the next content release. It's not like not getting BiS is going to lock you out of participating in the next raid release.

As for not everyone saying why the system works the way it does, why keep repeating what others have already said?
    - increases content longevity
    - increases chances of players who enter the content late to get a group
    - promotes more even distribution of loot among players, so RNG doesn't help lucky players gear near instantly while others struggle due to bad luck.

Do you really need 100 players to keep repeating it over and over before the reasons will finally sink into your head?

If you want the satisfaction of gearing up as fast as possible, play a single player game where no one is competing against you for what drops.
