As you have already said, Saami people don't agree on this. But generally the council is pretty aggressive with these kind of things so this was kind of expected of them. Square has alredy dismissed their complaint. From what I understand gákti has a lot of cultural significance. E.g. you can regonise where the person wearing it comes from, their marital status etc. I'm just Finnish so I don't have personal Saami perspective on this.

Yes, those things look like they could be inspirations for the glamour.

    But then you have this.

There's "looks like it could be inspiration" and then there's "looks like they found this picture and copied the outfit with minimal alterations".

Lol. I can point out countless differences. If this is enough for you than literally no article of clothing could ever be made again that isn’t close enough to something already in existence by your standards.

I don't think it helps the discussion to pretend that the outfit wasn't obviously inspired by the Sami outfit. Come on, it's clear they were the influence. That said, who cares? Cultures shouldn't have a copyright.

The differences are small things that don't stop them from looking extremely similar overall. The ways they look alike are big things – the combination of specific elements, colours, patterned sections, the very distinct mix of plain blue cloth and patterned red hems and highlights.

I don't know whether the Saami Council is properly representative of the culture, or whether it's a fair thing for them to seek money. But I do know that artistically, those are very similar outfits, far more than any of the other images posted above.

I don't know about you all, but I can read between the lines.

They just want money and that's all they care about: Their tantrum in the past worked on Disney so now they are trying again. That's all.

It speaks volumes when national disasters strike and a war is still going on and then you have these people whining about clothes in a video game to try to get money.

The male version shares no similarities apart from color, as the elezen is wearing a dress instead of a shirt and also has no pants. Once again we get a unisex outfit that amounts to cross dressing for male characters.

The female version is a blue dress with a red rim hat and a red shawl. The rest of the outfit is different. No purse, no striped mittens, no striped socks, no white shoes, no pants, no striped sleeves and an extra light blue top over the dress. Far Northern Attire is not an exact copy, it's more like it's inspired by one or more real life outfits.

But those big things are present in cultures the Saami descend from e.g various cultures of the Great Steppe, there are also other Steppe-descended groups in Northern Europe who wear a similar dress. this is a huge reach your going on tbh.
