Cultural appropriation is the very foundation of how we as a species progress. Someone invents a different and potentially better way of doing something or creates new clothing or tools that are useful and this knowledge gets picked up by other groups of people and incorporated into their ways of doing things. Bleating about cultural appropriation being bad is basically just another way of saying "I have no idea how human societies work and I want civilization to stagnate and end". Now, on the other hand, if someone goes out of their way to use things from other cultures in an attempt to just mock them, THEN that is rude and counter-productive.

This is nothing more than a small group of hucksters trying to hop on the grievance industry bandwagon in search of free money.

While I respect the rights of a cultural identity to protect itself... It's ironic that they're complaining about this after already selling out to Disney...

The ignorant people here are those blindly supporting this council. This has nothing to do with respecting the culture or historical oppression. They are looking for money. It's highly evident that is all they actually want. A culture is not suddenly respected because a council got a payday. If anything the initial exposure showed some people the Sami culture in one form for the first time, and the outfit itself is respectful. The second exposure is this council looking for a money grab, whereas they had already gotten one from Disney. The second exposure is a bad look here.

Imagine if France, China, England/UK, India, Mongolia, all of Scandinavia, Russia, Italy, various tribes, and even the United States said to stop appropriating anything related to themselves, whether it be outfits, architecture, names, classes/jobs, foodstuffs, or whatever.

This is a perfect example of actions doing more harm than good. No one should have contacted them, and they should have no reason to protest unless someone was being intentionally disrespectful to them. Which as far as I can see is not happening.

Hopefully it doesn’t go to courts because if it does all Disney succeeded in doing was creating a law suit mill with their misguided woke agenda. Money isn’t even the best thing you can do for cultures, it’s more about being respectful about how they are presented. But I bet the greedy politicians would disagree of course. From the research I did, they'd have trouble bringing a lawsuit. I see "cultural IP" as something being discussed but I don't see any law or agreements Japan or other countries agreed to abide by. For example, Black Panther was sued for some of the attire used in the film, due to that attire being illegal to use without permission in that country. However, there are no laws binding the US or other countries that they are bound to through any international agreements, so I don't think that lawsuit prevailed.

It's probably why they went to twitter instead of a court.

With certain yellow dyes it looks like the Hudson's Bay Company's signature colours. One of Canadas oldest companies from the British that populated the country, largely important for fur trades across the tundra. It's historically important to our culture.
