You can't seel anything to Disney like that for what is world heritage stay world heritage... and it would be just bad for any company who think they can claim it for their own, as long as there is no disrespectfull goin with the attire that in one way or another would demain whichever culture, then there is no culture really that has the rights on how to dress.
It is not like you are buying a badge that say Gucci or Levi's or Chanel which is printed on some clothing/parfumes and whatever else.
Hello forum people, Im a long time player but i had to make an account just to voice my opinion on this.
I have not read every post in this thread but let me just say straight away that i am of the sami people, and when i saw square adding the Far Northern outfit last year i was thinking "This looks alot like the sami outfit, that is awesome, i like it".
Today when i read about this.... drivel comming from the saami council i just face palmed. Its just so stupid its not even worth paying attention to and i hope square gives them the middle finger.
Every sami that i know that actually do proper traditional work really would not give a flying eff about this outfit. These people are just out to be a pain in the ass and pretend they are promoting the sami culture when in reality they just anoher bunch of office rats that dont know the real world outside the office walls of theirs. Its people like these that give the sami people as a whole a bad rep.
The fact that they basically said "we are open to negotiations" just means they hoping for some form of money handouts from square. Just... no.

If you're not a member of this community or a company making products then your opinion on the matter is quite frankly irrelevant. This group of people has existing agreements with other companies, notably Disney, on how their culture is to be represented. They can do what they want with their own culture and if SE makes an agreement with them on the matter then that is simply how it will be, other opinions be damned. That doesn't change the fact that them trying to get this outfit removed is ridiculous. If they feel upset, so be it. As far as I'm concerned if they are privileged enough to cry over video game outfits and Frozen of all things then they aren't oppressed in the slightest. They ought to have picked their battles more wisely.
Thanks for the links! Its nice to get some wider context then just anger at ‘cancel culture’ ect.https://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-1...rthern-attire/

Try reading the full articles to get more context. This title/screenshot provides laughably little.
Personally speaking, whilst I do not think this is some form of racist slap in the face or kick in the teeth they are suggesting, I can see why they are/could be bothered. Fiction has a habit of taking cultural elements foreign to its authors. Final Fantasy is no stranger to this, and in Endwalkers main story alone we have Soviet inspired Garlemald and Radz-at-Han, which in heavily borrows from India/Hindu culture. Now personally speaking I think those elements where used well, in Radza particularly. It really helped enhance the lore of the world whilst being respectful (I just hope when we get to the New World they do the same to Native American culture!) and is a valid worldbuilding technique. However sometimes those elements can be watered down and portrayed in outright stereotypical or offencive manners, so I can understand why practitioners of such cultures may dislike them being used. It does not help that its a purely aesthetic issue here, with no in-game lore attached outside of it being described as northern, traditional and being sold purely for profit over being in-game.
Like I said though, I do not think its as big a deal as they claim. If Final Fantasy or any game had to pay or ask permission for every culture it had ever borrowed from then the series, and wider fiction in general, would be allot duller. Then again I am not Sami, and I would not wish to speak for them or belittle any genuine issues they may have. It seems they had issues with Disney as well when it came to Frozen, which caused them to eventually reach a deal when they made Frozen II. I suspect that is the goal here over completely removing the costume from the game, which I doubt SE will do. Either they will sort somthing out or they will ride out any controversy. If the the top brass of SE can still harp on about bloody NFTs after all this time I doubt the Saami Council have much of a chance of swaying their opinions.

If they do remove/alter it, they would also have to remove/alter the Far Eastern Schoolboy/girl sets and the New World set, just to be consistent.
I don't know how willing SE would be to give refunds for the store outfits, though.

Not to mention the New World look would be difficult to remove because what would happen if we ever go to meet the Whalaqee?
Ah yes, the Far Northern Hmong of South East Asia.
Yaaaaaaaaaay abeyund is back

Sounds like they're mad they're not getting a cut.
