I'm not going to assume the story was twisted by his direction to try to drown out the nuance that was brought up in Shadowbringers, but I can understand why people would think that's the case.
Honestly it is strange that people want to choose Emet-Selch; who is quote on quote a "megaloniacal maniac" driven by depression and people seem to easily ignore the countless amounts of genocide and suffering in multiple worlds. His plight is sympathetic but doesnt excuse the atrocities he committed. Its like that weird side of tumblr again who people love the fantasize villian characters because "they get me" or something like that. I just like Emet-Selch he's just an entertaining character and villain, not because I agree with what he did.
