To be fair, the whole "no hats" was because the (alleged, now conveniently claimed "mistranslation") original intent was for both races to have unique hairstyles or customizations instead. I can only assume the devs realized they bit more than they could chew with that idea and dropped it, which is why we're now getting the mainstream hairstyles instead, and since most hats are designed with those hairstyles in mind, it should be more likely all hats will eventually work - maybe not by 7.0, or even 8.0, but someday.

Yeah, this is my thought as well. Takes a lot more work creating hairstyles from scratch for both viera and hrothgar, so why not just copy and paste instead?

:x I'd rather them being a bit more select with what they give each race, rather than just blindly do things. Or at least put in some effort in it and not render 2Peanut

But beggars can't be choosers, and ultimately even unflattering hairstyles will be a part of the character creator. Every race has it.

It would be interesting to have more leonine hairstyles for Hrothgar, but so would many other things be interesting to add to the game, and they have better sh*t to work on.

For now, give us hairstyles (without needing to literally cut corners) and try to have a wider choice of headgear when possible.

See, if they were doing this from the Beginning while they were making them, and in between patches especially leading into Endwalker, we'd probably have a good handful of Hairstyles Post Shadowbrigers by now.
I get it, the world was in a bad state, and there is other content and MSQ to focus on, and then there is the Creation of the "Missing Genders" But if they didnt just sit on it and wait, we'd have more options (that hopefully wern't botched) by now.
