Theres you and then theres concrete proof of what dps meters enable.

You are still torqued about that banned streamer, arent you?
Only one bringing that up is you. The *only* toxicity in this game comes from toxic casuals, and the proof for that statement is easy: their smug insistence that information is evil and toxic passive-aggression is the only form of toxicity the TOS allows. Adding parsers wouldn't change a thing about that TOS. The mean-girling will remain the only allowed toxicity.

You don't want to see your numbers for the same reason all anti-parsers don't want to. You want to sneer at "elitists" with impunity, while hiding behind the veil of an -enforced- lack of information for your own lack of skill, real or perceived. God forbid anyone see you have ANY room to improve at anything. That's devil talk.

Toxic casuals don't want to see parsers because they're currently in win-win scenarios. If they get snippy during a run of any content and they're right, their passive-aggression wins the day. If they're wrong, well any proof that would put the lie to their hot air is contraband, so they win anyway.

I don't personally get into any of these situations because A) casual content is easy and someone doing low damage doesn't matter there, so I just eat the 5 minute longer dungeon, and B) I don't play with toxic casuals in difficult content. Oh me oh my, how terrible, I'm sure a damage meter would ruin the whole experience.

It doesn’t matter most of the time no but it is annoying, and you CAN wipe in casual content. I did MSQ on Wednesday for my white mage, got Praetorum and the thing took forever. We actually wiped to final bosses “enrage” because he fully charged the swords. I got the samurai to use LB2 on one of the clones our second pull and we still almost wiped “95% charge.” I was late to my FCs Christmas event because that MSQ took maybe three times longer than usual.

Should've replaced at least one DPS

Do we play the same game? Are you part of some kind of static that never pugs or interacts with other people or something?

There's plenty of toxicity in the highend community; I could probably fill an entire book with the experiences I've had raiding on this game. Two of FFXIVs most popular raid streamers have a lot of content that revolves around demeaning other players live on their streams. You really can't get much more visible than that.

Those streamers point out players that often start shit of make claims that are factually incorrect so they get called out. How is that toxic? Calling out poor play is not toxic and if it happens often to someone then maybe it is time to take a hint.

    No.
No they do not lmao. Let me regale you with a fun story.

Back in my first raid tier (Alexander Creator), Xenosys Vex joined my PF to 'help', unannounced. At the time, I had no idea who he was, but my good MCH friend that I was progging with got super excited and explained to me who he was. A few pulls later, my friend excitedly tuned into the stream and I heard his excitement turn to horror as he realized he tuned in right as Xenosys Vex was publicly mocking him with his entire chat joining in, specifically because his DPS appeared low. That friend ended up feeling so gutted that he quit raiding for a long time after that experience, and then eventually stopped playing the game altogether.

My response to that person wasn't even specifically about meters. It was addressing the absolutely deranged notion that, quote, "The *only* toxicity in this game comes from toxic casuals".

That said, anyone who has spent 5 minutes in highend communities knows exactly how much toxicity there is around parsing. It's the most common 'competitive' activity that the general raiding population participates in, and when something is competitive, there's always toxicity. I'm forced to believe anyone in this thread pretending it isn't a thing is being willfully disingenuous.

"Demeaning" a player for poor performance is not toxic

If the MCH wasn't bad there would have been no need to call them out. Glad the MCH left the game, they clearly couldn't git gud and did the player base a favor

Yikes, it is true when they say "never meet your heroes". I wasn't a follower of him but I remember watching some vids about him cause of warrior stuff, but damn that's outright mean. Not sure even if fully toxic, but it's just outright mean spirited.
One thing is saying "their dps is low, but could be worse", another thing is just throwing crap at them and completely discouraging them from improving.

Never meet your heroes but also were they a fan of xeno before that or just happened to know who he is? Because if you are a fan of a streamer who is known for this kind of stuff and then get upset that it happened to you by said streamer, you're a fake fan anyway.

As I said calling out someone for poor play is not toxic, sounds like your friend was playing poorly. So where exactly is the problem? Let us also be fair, Xeno is known to be harsh, so what exactly was your friend expecting? No way he was a fan of them and never seen him be harsh to others. Problem is your friend probably thought he was good because no one said anything to him because in FFXIV any mention of performance allegedly can get you reported. So people do not say a thing then go on for a time thinking they are doing fine because they are able to clear the content. Sounds like Xeno gave your friend a realty check.

Offense is taken not given, a person only has control over their own actions.
