There's something suspicious about that one lalafell in the middle screenshot. He's not looking forward.

I think we'd all like to see something done about the bot problem but what can SE realistically do that they aren't already doing?

As entertaining as a death trap under the Aetheryte would be, it would probably only aggravate your latency/FPS further with all the death animations going on.

Out of curiosity, are they all just standing there or are they blinking in and out? Pretty unusual for bots to be just standing in one place unless they're RMT ad spamming and the gil sellers don't need that many in the same spot to ad spam.

Perhaps the reason they're clustered there is SE has done something that prevents them from executing the next command in their script until their programmer comes up with a way to counter it. Players use idle cameras all the time in Limsa so it seems strange that we have only been getting screenshots of the bots idling in this particular location recently.

If it is due to a countermeasure of SE's making, I will say it was a bad choice of location precisely because of the concentrated player activity that already occurs around the aetheryte.

Seeing as they're under the map, it's out of bounds are other games will disconnect, teleport or kill you for this. This is something they'd have to detect server side.

In terms of making it harder from the client side... well I think the anti-cheat discussion doesn't need to be had because we all know what it means.

For advertisement spamming it doesnt matter where they stand. Under the map or on the plaza is both just the same. So on that, detecting they are there might be trivial. But once they instantly take care of it, they will adjust the bots and they then will appear randomly acros the city instead (possibly even with diffirent outfits to obfuscate it further).

The real solution is making sure those advertisements dont get shown. At that point it doesnt matter if its 10 or 100 bots, if none of them can spam, they are just a useless waste of resources for the spammer (and because of that, will be purged). Surely the spammer will then try other ways, but if those cost more, it makes its harder to generate profit.

Effectively you just want to make their entire business not generate enough profit to sustain themselve. Banning 1000s of free accounts barely disrupts them as the accounts are free and creating them isnt that much effort when automated either. Yet the more they spam new accounts because of actions taken against them, can actualy put more stress on the servers of SE instead.
