I HATE POST LIMITS.
For 9, Vivi dies just before the game ends. The last few cutscenes show you his children show up in Alexandria and telling you that Vivi died during the time skip. FF10 Tidus... "dies", refer to TaleraRistain's post a bit before this, but Yuna brings him back.
As for Shadow, sure, but he still counts, you can just avoid it. It's permanent if you don't, however. And I fail to see your point about 15... isn't the whole point that the Scions did not die at Ultima Thule? Deaths at the last portion of the game do not deride the fact that the death happened. Otherwise the same will be said for Type-0, as technically the whole roster dies only at "the end".
And I'm not trying to paint FF14 as a happy-go-lucky-go story o,o Sis, I wrote this xD
No, it's perfectly fine for the game to have serious moments, just as much as it's perfectly fine for it to have gag and gratuitous comedy. After all, even older scenes are hilarious, and adding context back to this video doesn't make it any less funny. The real issue I have with it is that it needs to have a natural narrative cadence.
The point of my reply was to really show people what TaleraRistain was talking about, as I HAVE played every one of those games. Including 5 :P oops.
Yeah, the game isn't Dark Souls... but it isn't Kingdom Hearts either. If we're going to have meaningful deaths and sacrifices from the main roster, they shouldn't be fake-out deaths. It's not edgy to have them. It's just normal. Goofy Boulder moments aren't really cool either.
Meaningful stuff DOES happen to characters who survive, it's literally their character development, is it not?
Thancred's whole deal with Minfilia and acceptance of what happened, embracing his guardian figure.
Urianger stops being so secretive and uses his experience as "the outcast" to give us different perspectives.
Y'shtola slowly opened herself up and showed far more emotions. Runar is the only other character that isn't a Scion or her sister to become a source of motivation to her.
Same for G'raha. He out of all the Scions endured 100 years of psychological, emotional and physical torment. All under one singular hope. That you'd be able to come and help and steer the future.
But fake-out deaths? That's not good writing. And the issue with Krile's suffering at the hands of Zenos is that the only time you actually are given a glimpse of what could have happened to her had we not saved her is if you read up on the entries about Dabog in Bozja. That is where the true gravity of her fate lies. You otherwise only know it's scary, it doesn't go over the actual consequences.
