the quickest solution would be for them to buy the mods that came out. There is one of such quality that even the holes, to pass the ears, were made. This mod accommodates all types of ears, on different helmets (and the author is looking to make all helmets work), even having already made helmets that I thought were impossible, like Amon's hat or top hats. All this without clipping anything, and even making models of ear pockets for helmets that would look weird just having a furry ear on top. You can find a lot of screenshots of this mod in Twitter.

But we know that may never happen, so they have to sit their asses in the chair and work. The excuse that it is impossible is no longer valid, from the moment that mods started to appear.

I'd love to see a visual solution to the Neo Ishgardian Tophat... that would not be shrinking it to a Lalafell size, like they do with other small hats, that end up being fascinators and tilted nearly to the forehead. The tophat's design sits exactly where the ears are, and making holes, or just letting the ears clip through it would make it really weird, because the hat is already tall, but not too tall to have the ears hidden inside. It's funny because it's an item that does not change anybody's hair when worn due to its size, thus it already clips with many hairstyles, some horribly.

The angle is flattening to the picture, tho... I can't see a lot but it seems that the ear is clipping through the hat's brim, not even a hole would be able to fix that.

I mean, I'm saying this because this is my favorite hat in the game (pls SE unlimit the glamour system so I can use it as a healer too!) and I'm really bothered by clipping to the point that my own hairstyle is this short one to avoid any whatsoever.

In the end of the day, if the clipping isn't atrocious it's better than not having it available. After all not having it available is already the status quo.

well, as it wasn't a screenshot specifically to show the hat, I can't say much about it. I tried looking for something more visible, but I didn't find anyone posting screenshots with this particular hat. I will owe you a better picture

Position and shape of the ears are probably some of the biggest factors to have as an excuse for not making headgear available. Male au ra in particular has some horrific clipping, but since it's on the side of the head, it can be not as bad as viera's could be. I don't really remember what the various male viera ears look like, but, like in that image, female viera have ears that go farther back on the head which would cause the clipping into the hat's brim, but they also have ears that would shoot straight up. I'm sure SE made viera ears varied and customizable due to never planning to do headgear, or hats specifically. With that hat and others they could always miniaturize it too.

I have suggested custom viera variants in the past, but I'm not sure how the community would react to that at this point. I mean, it's a pipe dream that SE would actually do viera specific variants of hats in the first place though.

I remember someone posting this image in the early days when we knew about the limitations of vieras. Indeed some hats could just hide the ears, because they are so big that we could imagine that the ears are inside them.

I just got that hat ingame... and looking it closely I realized that in fact it could work as of today because it completely deletes the hair of the model.

I see literally no reason why they cannot make it so bigger hats just hide ears altogether. The smallest possible Viera ears are nowhere as big as to use "they won't fit inside" as a reason.
