Because Stardew Valley was created specifically for that content and does the job better for what it was created. No matter how island sanctuary turns out to be it's not gonna be a fleshed out gardening experience like in a game dedicated to it.

Garrison did also have the unfortunate effect of being our "hub" that expansion leaving players feeling isolated.
Had it not been isolated (outside of quests/events) and had the expansion not been reworked halfway through development and then abandoned, then the garrisons would probably not have gotten it's infamy.

As I've seen mentioned before, it sounds like a bigger version of the Mog Gardens from this game's sibling FFXI. The only difference so far being is that it's completely insular with apparently no way to influence the game as a whole which can be seen as a positive or a negative. Mog Gardens had the same issue that I'm seeing others speak of concerning WoW's Garrisons, where too much content/power(?) was tied up in this side content. The devs seem adamant to avoid this and I agree with this stance but we'll have to wait and see if they attempt to link any progression or other side content to this. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to it actually.
I am fine with it being completely cut of from the main game. With that people who dont like it dont have to do it or feel like they lose something while those that enjoy it can do it as a nice side activity.
Of course I hope it has good amount of content behind it but I am already quite happy to be able to see more than one minion out at a time.
As someone that does not really raid or do extreme battle content I look forward to it.

Yeah, but it's the specifics that I'm waiting for before I start getting any real hype.Island Sanctuary summary from Live Letter
That's a fairly good amount of information about what to expect even if it's not getting into specifics.
At this point it's clear yoshi hates the player's.Sounds like everything to do with this upcoming feature is entirely self-contained, having nothing at all tying it to the main game. From what I've read about the features, it sounds awfully time-consuming for stuff you can only see/do/use on the island itself.
Edit: Another thought I just had...the existence of island sanctuary with the described features completely obliterates every single argument against the existence of instanced housing.
You want more house plots? To bad we can't add more but here an island that is way bigger . To bad you can have it as a house. Like wtf is he even real.
Then the glamour dresser, here more space but you can't have more sets.
Like you can't say yoshi is burned out and passively hate the players.
