Yea that one is a head scratcher for me aswell. The armoire system just seems abandoned at this point.
Ideally, we wouldn't even stop there, but rather separate the glamour plate one in wearing from the gear itself. Rather than applying glams to pieces of gear, we'd merely slap the plate atop it.
That would mean a player holds a greater number of items, effectively, but no gear would ever need to have a separate tag for its appearance.
My understanding is that the armoire is able to do some trickery with keeping track of very specific items, but doesn't have enough memory to store everything that way.
Ultimately, it's outdated but it lets us keep *some* things without occupying dresser slots, and it's integrated enough that you can put them on plates, so it's better to have it than not.
That's... Not how servers work.
They have massive technical debt. But not from ffxi or 1.0.
The technical debt comes from cobbling the game together in roughly 2 years with a completely new engine.
this system is archaic, and honestly 400 more spaces will be easily filled in the first week. But you know what would help a little, as they would "spare no expense", but redoing non-functional systems is out of the question? I'll clarify with an image:
You know, I love paw boots (since originally vieras had paws and not feet, but the "spare no expense" team can't put hats on rabbits, let alone boots on paws). But to be able to use them in all classes, I need to get the same item, with the same appearance, for each one.
What's the point of having limited space to store glammours, and having class restriction on the glammour plate? If they don't have the ability to solve the storage system, they could at least let the glammour free for all classes.
Yes, absolutely agree with OP. WoW's transmog system is many times better and thats ideally what needs to happen in this game as well. Also, they need to remove glam restrictions between roles so any role can glam any piece of gear from any other role because it no longer makes any sense to restrict that (thread link in my signature as I do not intend to derail this one).

Role glamour restrictions abolitionist! For more details and to help us spread the message:

Meaningless semantics. Why did they have to cobble a completely new game together in comparatively very little time? Was it maybe because of the clown fiesta that was 1.0?
The glamour plate system ultimately produces the same result as glamour prisms, just with a better interface. It's still the same old rules determining whether the glamour will show once it is applied to the gear, because the system can't see a difference.
i understand why it works the way it does, but its still weird. imagine if they fix glamour dressers by implementing a completely new system and just leaving the dresser to rot in the corner. My understanding is that the armoire is able to do some trickery with keeping track of very specific items, but doesn't have enough memory to store everything that way.

like how trusts made my grandcompany barracks feel like squadron jail.
Yes, but none of the debt is from 1.0 servers or code itself.
And XI had literally nothing to do with it. And I HATE XI.
Place the blame correctly.
