So you just want everyone to go naked? They shouldn't get rid of jobs or classes. Most people enjoy unlocking classes and getting upgrades that make your character seem to progress more drastically at times. Personally, I want an MMORPG that abolishes gear entirely, but I know better than to ask SE to remove it from ff14.
yes, since patch there have been groups that have went in with just jobs and groups that have ran in just classes. the job group i was in did clear it a little quicker than the class party did, but we also changed a few people out so it could have been a difference in skill levels as well. the content in game is able to be beaten in full parties of either.

I felt like I had to state my opinion on this matter, it my first post since too:
I've been playing the game for a little more than 1 month (around 1 month and a week to be precise) so of course I'm not as knowledgeable as other people that has been playing for over a year or even several months, I'm really aware of this fact (you can call me noob if you want, I'm not ashamed of being one, we all were noobs) but here are my 2 cents:
Basically now the class system is stupid, at least how is implemented right now, I have nothing againts more flexibility in how you build you character to even basically break the restricted walls of a more classic job system, but why I have to level up several classes to fully have this flexibility? I don't want to play CNJ, why I have to do it just to have a couple of abilities?. If you people or SE wants a game around flexibility the current system is terribly cumbersome, and goes againts the more friendly approach that SE wants in the game (not easier or simpler, I said friendly). You want to new players play the catch up game of having to level up several classes to stay on the same ground of players that played for months? And no, you don't need to play with dozens of classes to understand how to play this game or a more specific role as DD.
That said a more flexible system would be ok, just need to implement that flexibility on every class, for example DD get their own set of healing abilities, evading abilities etc, basically just look how Guild Wars 2 does it. Every class is auto-sufficient, they have their own set of abilities to survive by themshelves but there's also a very great variety of how you play each class in that game and dozens of different combinations.
Naming GW2 brings another question: We have flexibility, why not break the holy trinity altogether? why have WHM/CNJ if everyone can heal themselves? so healers can just spam cure on a tank that can also cure himself?. That's redundant, either go one way or the other, although I like more a restricted job system that allows different sub-roles in each job I wouldn't mind the other way, but having the two is stupid, SE should design every content with two considerable different systems in mind? We should have bosses for the 2 different party setups? or even hybrid parties?. And talking about hybrid parties, class members should kick job members beacuse jobs dosn't have ability x?.
Job system has potential and without any doubt it dosn't cover more niche roles, probably but they have been here for just one week or so, but the question is: remove classes or jobs, but remove one SE.
PD: My english is far from perfect, please forgive me.
You don't have to level the other classes to get their abilities, but if you want them so you can be more auot-sufficient then shhhhhhh go do the work. it shouldn't be easy.
pretty sure that if you do this the game becomes XI and goodbye soloing.
And what?
Remove another goal?
No thanks.
I just think Jobs are silly until they release 2 per class. I'm not saying its not cool to have the options of using both, just the overall idea of it is kind of weird. You can either be your classes jack-of-all-your-classes-trades, or you can do your classes specialty. Just seems weird.
Adding a second class, however, will make it feel right. You have your class, and your class has two specialties, each being quite similar to the base class but just different enough to give it that edge in party play. I can't put my finger on it, but something feels more right to me about that.
For example ->
Archer -> Bard (Thm/Cnj abilities) and Ranger (Mrd and...Lnc? Abilities) + new 5 Rng specific.
Lancer -> Dragoon (Pgl/Arc) and Um, Dancer (Gld/Cnj)
Thaumaturge -> Blm (Pgl/Arc) and Dark Knight? (Gld/Mrd)
Except Drk's would be using staves and wands... Okay, I don't know, but its possible.
OH yes! Please limit us even more than we are lmited so far that would be AWESOME!!! /sarcasm off
are you brain ded?
*burns this petition*
i'm not going to go into the noob you are stupid blah blah. as a newer player you are not going to see the results nor should you. i don't blame that on you at all. the one thing to think of though is that you have only been playing a very short time so you haven't been through the regular learning of low level abilities from other classes so you haven't gotten the benefits out of them. if you want to be able to solo you can go with a group and get the ranks needed in con in just a short time.Basically now the class system is stupid, at least how is implemented right now, I have nothing againts more flexibility in how you build you character to even basically break the restricted walls of a more classic job system, but why I have to level up several classes to fully have this flexibility? I don't want to play CNJ, why I have to do it just to have a couple of abilities?. it's not like the original leveling curve anymore where it took over a month of hard grinding to get one class to cap. you are not punished with fatigue from release and the sp gained is huge compared to release. yes, i understand you may not want to play as a con to get an ability to be efficient solo, but it is something that will help your main class out greatly.
i may not use the classes for much anymore, but i do still farm mats with them. when going out and farming materials it is much better to farm on your classes due to those extra abilities that you do not have on your job. yes, a mmo is meant to be a game based on grouping, but to go out and farm skins to level your leatherworker you won't take a party out with you. you will do that solo.
this is the main reason in which i feel jobs and classes can and should both be in the game together. you will use the class to farm materials for the most part since that is something you will be doing solo for the most part.

yes i agree with thevedis on this, another example is arc and brd.
go brd if you want support mage or go arc for Damage. arc does more damage than brd even so alot ppl i seem go in a party of 6 brd to moogle fight. the point is arc still do more damage than brd.
