theyve added new jobs in almost every FF for the most part too, and in some they didnt even have jobs at all!Yeah I mean the jobs are what make it Final Fantasy, they've been here since FF1. They tried somethin new and it didn't work out. Would you rather play a Lancer or a Dragoon? I mean all the new content is tiered toward jobs at this point anyway, the only thing you do with a class is solo aside from a few other things anyway.
btw kinda crazy, I saw your deviant art page the other day and saw you played XIV, now I get to match a...face with a character? lol or whatever, but yeah, awesome cosplays, what are the odds I see you on the forums, small world!
so they arent what make a FF

No they definitely are, every FF game has jobs, they may not swap around, but they're definitely the basis for the characters. Locke is a Thief, Zell is a Monk, etc. They were here since day one and made FF different from other games and are a capstone of the original series, so they definitely are in every game in one incarnation or another. Your point would almost be a valid one if the current classes in the game weren't just poo poo versions of the jobs. They were made to be watered down versions for the armory system which no longer matters as end game content isn't tiered toward classes. It's even more so that way now. THM = ghetto BLM. They aren't new jobs, they're shadows of our current ones.
The only thing that keeps them afloat is stealing abilities from other classes that more often than not causes problems and nerfs, which is why we no longer are able to equip every ability on every class. It's a broken system that causes gross imbalance and a need to waste dev time and resources to keep in check which could be devoted to actual new content.
You're talking about soloing as if it's some negligible thing.Yeah I mean the jobs are what make it Final Fantasy, they've been here since FF1. They tried somethin new and it didn't work out. Would you rather play a Lancer or a Dragoon? I mean all the new content is tiered toward jobs at this point anyway, the only thing you do with a class is solo aside from a few other things anyway.
A sizeable chunk of the initial playerbase for FFXIV was drawn to it because of its advertised ability to accommodate solo and party play alike. Much of these players have been disappointed along the way due to soloing becoming more difficult with successive patches. The new class/job system seeks to restore that balance of being able to cater to both, and the system is still being fleshed out.
So no, soloing isn't something that should just be dismissed. The class system is what needs to cater to the crowd that likes to solo.

Exactly, I solo all the time and find it frustrating that certain quests require a group to play, but accept that this being an MMO it would be kind of ridiculous if there was no multiplayer content. Jobs close a lot of doors that are necessary in solo play, does anyone actually solo without protect cast on them at all times?
I'm not criticising the job system, it is a great idea for group play making assigned roles clearer and individuals more powerful in that given role, but outside of group play? I'll stick to the class system thanks.

LNC and DRG can be used on different situations. LNC can easily solo some high level monster with almost no down time, in other hand DRG have only second wind to heal himself making it hard to solo. But if you are on a party you will probably want to be DRG as it have more dmg output. Another situation is ifrit where been a DRG is good for the dmg but using LNC is probably better since you have Sentinel, Stoneskin, Heal and Bloodbath.
The same happens with BLM/THM.
So, no, keep it like it is. Nobody will want to loose more complexity that what we have all ready loose with 1.19 changes.

I think having classes and jobs is a good idea they just need to make jobs feel different to classes not just look different.

If the thread title was "Petition to remove sub class action restrictions" I'd be all for it.
As is, no. I like stoneskin and protect and sentinel and _________ when playing thm outside a group thank you very much.
Also, petition to stop petition threads. Seriously, they all read in an entitled 12 year old's voice to me >.>
Petition to confirm that you started petitions??

Id rather have just jobs. To me its a waste of resources to make quest/story, equipment, and so much more for classes and jobs. If they just focused on jobs then they could release more jobs faster. Now every time they add a job(unless its a second job) they'll have to add a class. Now, in the event they add 2nd jobs they will be almost identical to the first jobs since job skills only make up a Small amount of your action bar. Either way though, I don't really care.
