The forum is mostly full of complaints because when you have a complaint, they direct you here to the forum to post it. So there's always going to be a lot more negative posts/questions since this is where it actually belongs.

Think about the structure of the game, and how its social mechanisms operate. You have groups with leadership who can on demand remove someone who says something they don't like.
The game itself is very fast paced, where if you are playing, there isn't a lot of room to chat. Unless you're specifically chatting in game, rather than playing (unless you're crafting or fishing).
Meanwhile the Forum is a place where, as long as you follow the rules, no one can silence you. Save individually via the block option. The only thing we can do here is write words to convey feelings and facts.
You see a lot more negative here, because it's allowed. It is mostly just the earnest and open opinions of people, though there are also trolls. This negativity is not without purpose. It's from the minds of people ruminating hard on the game, usually when they are unable to log into it, but still have time to write. These are people thinking about FFXIV all of the time. The trolls are just here for the semi-easy marks, who they are also thinking about all of the time (doki doki).
It is not that they are unhappy, necessarily. It is that they care so much, that they wish for the game to move closer to what it had been or what it could be. It is the negativity that comes from hope. The hope that the devs will read the feedback. The hope that the game will get better/go back to being as good as it was. The hope that certain features will be added. It is the negativity that comes from hope, when hope is thoroughly dashed.
Keep in mind also that, the regular posters here are here for more than just feedback. Here to socialize. Whereas the irregular users are just here to leave feedback once or twice, as strongly worded as possible, their feeling the need to post here generally a mark of anger or resentment.
It is a symptom of folks who care too much, so don't let it bother you. Don't give the forums another thought if they rain on your parade. This is their natural state.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
I'm happy, but I only check the forums for the state of some bug reports, stuff like that.
Can't imagine living here. Half the threads in the General Discussions are just the most rancid attention bait I've ever laid eyes on, it drowns out anything remotely constructive.
I mean I love the game and have had plenty of fun playing it. There are just also things about it that I don't enjoy or would like to see changed. It is possible to enjoy something and also recognize and criticize flaws in it, you know.

A vast oversimplification of a much more complex storyline.I may not have put much thought into the story at the time I made that post, but even then I thought it was kinda goofy that the main cause of virtually everything wrong with Eitherys was a depressed guy and his army of bird daughterus sending negative vibes toward the rest of the universe.
No hero is perfect, no legend is 100% true, what we did not know of those times, we later learn, that what we believe to be true is only part of the story. Venat was not without fault..none of us are. Venat made the only decison she felt would work..and the depiction of the Sundering painting Venat/Hydaelyn in a far more negative light than I thought possible.both to weaken Zodiark, and to prepare Man to better deal with dynamis
"To find joy even as darkness descends"..Meteion and what she creates, a universe of misery and death
"And amidst deepest despair..light everlasting". The journey at Ultima Thule, all we had suffered before, had prepared us for what we were to face..
She did what she thought she had to...at that time she had very few choices. None of them very palateable..but this path, she hoped, she prayed,Even when she acknowledges that what she did was heinous and a gross violation of all her people's rights, the story bends over backwards to have the Scions reassure her that her cause was just and she did no wrong, with no dialogue option to rebuke her in sight.would bring Man to the point where they could fight Meteion on her own ground..but on THEIR terms.
For her children to grow, they had to pay that price.

Thy Life is a riddle, to bear rapture and sorrow
To listen, to suffer, to entrust unto tomorrow
In one fleeting moment, from the Land doth life flow
Yet in one fleeting moment, for anew it doth grow
In the same fleeting moment
Thou must live
Die
And know

It's been proven time and time again that the vocal minority is bs. its the reason the term hardly gets used anymore because those vocal people have been proven time and time again to be right.
Here's one for you.. recent ads on facebook put the games playerbase as totalling over 25 million players. The most recent lucky bancho thing put the active playerbase at about 800,000 if i recall correctly.
800,000 out of 25 million is in the region of 3%
So are the majority of players really happy with the game when only 3% of them are playing?
The clear answer is no. if they were happy then more of those 25 million would still be playing.
Source“Only 1 out of 26 unhappy customers complain. The rest churn. A lesson here is that companies should not view absence of feedback as a sign of satisfaction. The true enemy is indifference.”
You should never take silence as a sign of satisfaction or happiness. to say the majority of players are happy just because they are silent is beyond wrong.. especially when 96% of the playerbase has dropped the game.

This is true, Destiny had gotten 20 million additional accounts since new light began, but only 1 million stayed. That's a 95% failure rate at retaining those people who are actively interested in your game to buy it.
Plus, the number of accounts is expected to go up naturally over time, but it's not representative of the game's health or the active player base of the time, which is what matters. So WoW has over 100 million. Are we saying it is doing well? The answer to that is no.

I still enjoy the game, even I enjoyed the story when I did it for the first time, that doesn't mean I can't point out the flaws that it has, and this place seems to be one of the few places where I can post my issues with it, the result is probably making me look like a doomer, but that isn't the case, at least for me.
Let's be honest games like Fortnite and Genshin produce massive amounts of content, and they are free; we pay a sub plus box price. So we should be expecting higher quality content at a more frequent rate than even those games produce.
MMO companies are going crazy about the sandpark MMO or, as other people have known it, what everyone was always advertised as but could never do properly.
Most games are MMOs at this point and they take many different forums, it's no longer one of the hardest genres to pull off its industry standard and these companies have been doing it longer than most so they should be better at it than anyone else.
