Classes should absolutely be kept. The ability to somewhat freely use cross-class abilities is a big plus of the game for me.
It's quite simple actually. Being FFXIV's Armory System, the Jobs depend on the Classes. If you are powerful with a Job it's because its class is helping you support its power.
Classes here are the base requirement for a Job. This can lead to many things, like unlocking different Jobs by raising the level of certain classes and have more specializations
A Monk is not a Pugilist, as a Pugilist is something you use for solo, being able to select actions from other classes and be auto-sufficient. In a party a Monk makes a huge difference; different stats and Job actions are something that make the Monk a great element for the party.
Classes are the basics. Jobs are the advanced, specialization of classes. I know it's hard for who lived with FFXI all this time, but remember it's a different game =)
I can DD with Gladiator, can't on PLD.
THM has more survivability than BLM, and Burst 15 mins? NOT WORTH IT FOR THE COOLDOWN.
Yes I mad about Burst.
Shoulda gave us a 15 second/3 spell manafont. Only enough for one combo.
i don't mind classes staying, but with jobs just being like classes with minor differences and their own armor it just feels useless to have both of them.
the jobs where made to play a bigger role in party gaming and should have their roles allocated stronger by giving different jobs not only new skills and armor but also traits that will support their role.
PLD needs more HP/Def/Enmity/Block Rate
DRG could use some more Acc/Crit rate
and so on.
while the jobs are still a nice change, i still think they need traits that will distance them further from the classes to actually make them worth of their names.
im not of your opinion... its not like "new skills" its like having "MORE STRONGER" skills in your specialisation... and they are unique, no one other class can get those SPECIAL skills.i don't mind classes staying, but with jobs just being like classes with minor differences and their own armor it just feels useless to have both of them.

i think a whm is a much better healer than a conjurer... you have instant group heal, regena, and so on.
and a conjurer has the choice also to go more into the damaging role or whatever... he can grap a melee skill from gladi... (for solo or anything)
so i think its not just new skills, they are really powerful skills which are specialising the MAIN ROLE of each class. conjurer -> whm-> more healing abillities .. thm->blm-> more dmg power.
and thats how it should be. they are defining the MAIN role of each class much more.
classes are little undefined, they can grap mostly any skill from each other.
I think its okay like it is now. Jobs are something special now..
if you are new to the game you first have to level your standard classes, and then you can decide to grap your specific job.
i mean you have somethin similar in other MMorpgs. where you level a class till a specific level and then switch over to an other class.
its like the advanced jobs in FF11... you first have to level the standard jobs to start the job as a summoner or so.
i think its a cool system like we have now. and unlocking job abillities through quests and not exp'ing is much MORE interesting i think. instead of leveling them from lv 1-50
they should keep it like it is NOW.
why shouldnt? i mean jobs should be a little better, but in some situations its maybe good to switch to a class (for having skill cross overs). why not?

not exactly sure what you're getting at, but i wasn't talking much about skills.im not of your opinion... its not like "new skills" its like having "MORE STRONGER" skills in your specialisation... and they are unique, no one other class can get those SPECIAL skills.

i was talking about their base traits.
also, the skills are mostly skills that got removed from the classes before, and where put into the game again with other names, besides a few including the new weaponskills.
regen is just a weaker form of the previously sacrifice.
presence of the mind is chainspell.
as skills alone don't turn a PLD into a tank, but rather the base stats he's working on i think you've totally misunderstood me.
and what's that about FF11 advanced jobs? those were jobs of their own.
you just needed to lvl specific jobs to a lvl to unlock other, that doesn't mean those other jobs were advanced.
that would mean noone would have played warrior anymore after unlocking what, dark knight? (i'm not sure anymore as i haven't played that game for years)

not all jobs can do their class perfectly and in different situation as Ifrit only PLD/WHM/WAR/ survive all the rest need double the work to have slim chance to survive the battle
BRD isnot better than ARC they CO-exist even in same party because the dps abilities u get from other classes will always better than the few buffs you can do
also one of the patch notes or letters said we will get class-specific gears at some point
BRD is a hell of a lot better than ARC and the only sad thing about its specialization is losing Keen Flurry. Either way, I destroy mobs on BRD and not as much on ARC. Additionally, with the accuracy nerfs that were introduced with this patch, I actually hurt when Minuet isn't used, especially as DRG.not all jobs can do their class perfectly and in different situation as Ifrit only PLD/WHM/WAR/ survive all the rest need double the work to have slim chance to survive the battle
