I don't have any disability beyond hand pain (which I mitigate with a controller), but I have a friend that is color blind. He couldn't do E7S without either ACT or a raid member calling out portals because he actually couldn't see the difference between the two portals even with color blind mode on. He had similar readability issues with E6S, P3S and likely would have the same issue with P4S having blue/purple tethers. The accessibility options should be so good in this game that people don't have to rely on a third party program to make it playable.

E6S was just plain cruel. It was actually worse than P3S in terms of terrible AoE telegraphs in certain situations, I think.

(Though the inability to see some telegraphs in that fight was how some people I know who weren't aware that they were colorblind learned that in fact, they were.)

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

And on the other side of this, I'm also legally blind(one eye doesn't work at all, other is about as impaired as op is) and have very few issues with no third party tools(p3 is one exception).

Issues with p3n/s aren't limited to the visually impaired as well. Orange on orange on orange seems to be hard for everyone to see.

Colorblind settings I could see but if you want to know what helped me most in wow, it wasn't ui mods or graphics changes, it was AUDIO CUES.

Honestly, this is a conscious step I try to take in game design: I strongly believe anything you want the player to be aware of should have both a visual and an audio component to any telegraph. They don't have to be obvious, but I do think they have to be there.

I wish that FFXIV would be a little bit more consistent on this specific point, because I do feel like it would solve a surprising number of accessibility complaints.

Seriously?? So people with disabilities should just suffer because they were born disadvantaged? Disgusting take on this.

Asking for accessibility options for visually impaired individuals is fairly standard, in my opinion. And it doesn’t affect you in any way. It just makes things less of a headache for those of us that have bad vision and/or photosensitivity. It’s not as if I can change the fact that my vision is this terrible (I was born this way) or that I suffer from photosensitivity (again, born this way). Unless you would like to give me a couple thousand to get lens implants in my eyes to fix my vision.

It’s impossible to cater to every disability. But accessibility options for vision is fairly standard practice, and also fairly easy to implement. And more common than you would think.

So much this. I am fortunate enough to have normal color vision myself but I'm aware of the issues that e.g. Sephirot posed for colorblind people (and even with the additional help of the shapes I'm sure it can't necessarily be that much easier - I mean look at O4S antilights, too. Maybe I do actually have some trouble with contrast? because in that one I found the shapes easier to recognize sooner than the colors, but even then it can be a scramble particularly with the amount of time you think you have to react in this game frequently being a cruel illusion).

And I myself looked with dismay at some of the dungeons in the early part of Stormblood, especially Ala Mhigo and Kugane Castle outdoor areas where the regular ground is almost the same color as the AoE markers.

Then you had E6S where people were annoyed at tethers being too close in color to the field, yet it seems SE didn't learn that lesson because we have P3S's complaint train about orangey orange on orange ...

I'm surprised you can login to forums with a take so brainless.

This was absolutely one of my favourite things about return to Ivalice, some of the later Stormblood Dungeons and even Bozjan Southern front

SE have shown they are absolutely capable of adding voice lines and audio cues, even directional audio cues (in BSF one of the CEs the wind knockback is directional sound and you can pin point where the gust will come from without even looking at the cast bar) so it's exasperating that they don't use it more often.
