Making a game complex just to be complex is just stupid design. That's like saying I have to sing Happy Birthday while spinning around clockwise while trying to work a microwave....not counterclockwise, but microwave relative....and I can only hit one button every turn, and I have to input 2 minutes of cook time, but I only get 4 spins and I have to complete the entry before happy birthday is over. Oh....and blindfolded.
Confusing? Well it shouldn't be...it's a bloody microwave.... Keep it simple stupid.
Things don't have to be complex to just work....they just have to work. Sometimes to make things work you have to remove to refine.

I said limiting because that's the general idea i got from people in this thread saying removing Kaiten was justified due to "Button Bloat"
I don't have a controller so i have no idea what FFXIV on controller is like
I'm one of 2 players in my static on kbm lol. Everyone else uses controllers.
I'm really saddened by the changes to SAM. It's almost as if the devs decided on these changes while they were on their way out of the door on a Friday afternoon.
Dev 1: "Damn, we forgot to work on the SAM changes for 6.1."
Dev 2: "Erm... let's just remove Kaiten and add auto-crit."
Dev1: "Great idea! Now let's get a beer, it's the weekend WOOHOO!"
I'm not a dev and maybe I'm too stupid to see the bigger picture, but surely the play here, as others have suggested, was to leave SAM as it was and consolidate Shoha 1/2, Shinten/Kyoten, Ikishoten/Ogi Namikiri, Senei/Guren, etc?
I think I speak for the majority of SAM's when I say that if we had consolidation of the skills I mentioned above as opposed to when we ended up with, we'd be dancing in the streets instead of complaining on the forum.
I play SAM on controller and as far as APM or button bloat is concerned, Kaiten was never the issue. I'm far from a pro player, but I really enjoyed how it played and it is/was my favourite class. I'm really sad about the incoming changes and I have everything crossed that they see sense and revert them in a later patch.
FYI: When YoshiP saw the sad SAM's and Ninja's in the chat during the patch note reading, he did say that he'll be watching the official forums and wants us to post our thoughts. It doesn't mean that we'll see things reverted, but they are at least watching, so make your voice heard!
The thing i don't get is why they nerfed samurai so hard with this. Reaper has higher damage as far as i have seen so i don't get why samurai gets this huge nerf now.
I mean:
Kaeshi Namikiri nerfed from 1350 to 800, with Hissatsu Kaiten the original potency would be at 2k+ potential crit and dhit. Now with the guaranteed crit it is at around the original potency without Kaiten and without the chance of a crit cause that is guaranteed.
I feel bad for all samurais who have to meld in the future. What do you even take...crit to increase the damage of your crits but it's almost worthless cause you crit now with half your actions anyways or dhit but your crits deal less damage...
It's not a huge nerf. It's 3 dps outside of crit comp parties, and 3% in crit comp parties. The thing i don't get is why they nerfed samurai so hard with this. Reaper has higher damage as far as i have seen so i don't get why samurai gets this huge nerf now.
