Having a group of friends to clear all the content helps to keep me engaged. I'm still having fun in the raids, it doesn't have many gimmicks but to me gimmicks become annoying after the 2nd or 3rd time tbh. They are only fun the first time and become a chore after, maybe thats why I favor FFXIV raids over WoWs raids. The difficulty is still fun especially Ultimate raids.

You literally had to go to the area in the open world to enter the raid, you couldn't queue for it in DF.

When they did add the first coil to the Duty finder in 2.2 (ie when the second was released) YOU HAD TO JOIN WITH A FULL PARTY.

Why are you people making shit up? holy fuck.
While his memory may be wrong about the timeline(hell, i was remembering queuing for second coil solo as well, even though that didn’t come until 2.4), final coil was infact added to the df for solo queue in 2.56

This is still to this day my favorite fight in the entire game. Not only for the 6 nostalgia but it was SO creative. Even my gf who usually finds the game boring to watch found that fight interesting. The train whistle, the ghosts, the cabins, and the rain, man it was just great. It's one of the coolest visual attacks when the train backs off to ram your cart full speed.

I definitely think dungeon design could be freshened up quite a bit, but you end up with a lot of negativity anytime something like that isn't made to be easily burned through in a matter of minutes, and it's never by the casual crowd. Anything other than Savage/Ultimate must be designed to be not only incredibly easy but also incredibly quick, otherwise people complain that they have to deal with it in the daily roulette and it takes away from their time to play savage/ultimates.

Normal/Trials are the endgame content for the hardcore players- it's fine to get more creative for more casual content, but you have to keep mechanics tightly tuned for HC or they get very, very angry. It's why allied raids, world content, dungeons, etc... they can be far more lax- but the moment a savage raid with a strange shaped room causes an HC to lose a single dps off their parse and it's game over.

Keep in mind that strange shapes to rooms were tried in Coils, and WoW's done them too- most famously Azuregos. Guess what- people f'ing hate Azuregos because he's not a turn off brain and do big numbers fight. Arena shows this too- to most players the thought of a strange shaped arena with tornadoes popping in sounds fun, but TBC's tornado mechanic was axed very quickly because the ultra HC players cannot strand anything that isn't as simple, predictable and basic as possible.

Or look at Smash- there's a reason no items, final destination is so desired by HC players that it became a meme.

We must have played a different game then, BCoB was the first raid in this game, people weren't as familiar with mechanics as they are today, we cleared BCoB back in the day with lazy and unreliable guildies where we had to replace someone with a random sometimes because people didn't show up as arranged, obviously we weren't in world first pace but we also didn't need to wait for echoes to clear these. Nowadays u have hundreds of guides available for savage raids and don't need Mr. Happys confusing 1 hour videos guides from back in the day to inform yourself.

Well, now that Savage is out, I'm proven right anyways. The mechanics in these fights are just not that interesting.

This really. The game is currently the most popular mainstream MMO alive. Why on earth would they have any desire to change things up or experiment? What they have been doing is working REALLY well for them.

Dang, we have a world first racer here that apparently has cleared all the content.
    You godgamer.

No really, you've proven nothing yet, come back after clearing it. Watching others clear it is not the same.
World first races have always been ridiculously fast, they do not represent the average gamer that will likely still take several weeks to clear that.
The only first kill that took a while was Twintania back then and Gordias.

As someone who has week 1 clears under his belt, I can assure you I know what I'm talking about. I just don't have the capacity nor desire to alarm clock raid. My static is halfway through P3S in around 5 hours of prog, so we've pretty much seen 60% of the Savage content.

Besides, my critique is not about difficulty, it's about creativity; something that the average forum user seem to be incapable of differentiating.
