That was all rather dramatic, wasn't it?

Jobs that do less damage don't simply die, or return to the star, if you prefer. By that reasoning, DRK has been dead for the most part after Heavensward. If you think it's bad having a job with a ton of utility doing less dps, imagine being the job that has minimal to no utility and still does less dps.

The term 'utility' is a nebulous term and largely refers to beneficial things that don't directly translate into damage. Maybe it helps you do mechanics more easily. But a tank that heals itself without healer intervention is not a utility advantage. That's a dps advantage. Why run two healers when you can drop one, go PLD/WAR, and bring a fifth DPS?

But do you know what the real reason for the dps difference is? Living Dead. Rather than burning through precious resources and dps uptime trying to keep you alive through a basic, fundamental tank cooldown, your healers now finally have the option to let you just die and have your caster swiftcast raise you. This way, the self-healing faceroll tanks will still be more valuable, but at least it won't be as painful.
