So then provide an alternative hypothesis that uses fewer assumptions.The very basic idea of parsimony is that, given two hypotheses to pursue, you should look at the one that makes the fewest assumptions. Not only do you not have multiple hypotheses attempting to explain the same thing, but you're definitely not going with the one that makes the fewest assumptions from among them. It doesn't have anything to do with "the simplest explanation" despite how many people keep saying it.
