Every field of industry right now requires this little chip to function: car, phone, computer, and even your local traffic light system.

I suggest you to pay attention to news or what happened around you, even you claims yourself a gamer.

Every company did their forecast and they do have plan for expansion: new dataceter and server hardware upgrade.
They certainly did not expect a mass WoW exodus isn't it.
I mean, WoW community usually call use FF14 players as weebies.

This type of project requires more than 6 months because it is not something you can buy off Amazon and install it yourself.

Pretty sure if they had limited Endwalker Sales; we'd have a similar amount of backlash, if not more. Sure people are praising the halt of sales now, but it would be a completely different story if it was done before Endwalker's release. So many people, myself included, would complain about being unable to buy Endwalker, that we should have the decision on whether we want to deal with the congestion or not, that we want to be able to make the decision rather than have it be made for us, etc. Also, they warned players about the congestion several times ahead of time.

Realistically that is a matter of opinion.

Either way, businesses are never going to limit sales and profit unless absolutely required by catastrophe. Sad reality.
